Horrible club and don?t forget all their chavs on the pitch giving it large to us.

What?s everybody?s thoughts for the training ground spying which was blatantly cheating.

Huge fine - Points deduction next season - forfeit their place in the Final or play the match with Boro again?

Clearly an example needs to be set!

Play the match again on a neutral ground without supporters for me! Should not get away with this with a fine which is meaningless!

      I imagine they'll just receive a fine.
Is there a rule somewhere saying this isn't allowed and what the punishment is.
I don't think it's a big deal, I find it quite funny that someone was caught, more embarrassment than anything else.

Yep. Just looked it up Soulman: section 127 reg 3.4 "No club shall directly of indirectly observe (or attempt to observe) another club's training session in the period of 72 hours prior to any match scheduled to be played between those respective clubs"

Brought in in 2019 following Leeds Utd similar "spygate" case.

We were discussing at work last night. Though discovered so late on in the season, it would be unfair on other clubs to now allow Southampton to continue to progress to the play off final. Any decision around their guilt has to be made asap and then any subsequent punishment similarly enacted swiftly so that the matter can be concluded before the play off final and before the season ends.

I think the EFL should only concern themselves with the alleged spying at Boro initially in order to speed things up rather than wait for all the other clubs to review CCTV footage. If guilty, then the semi final game should be awarded to Boro who would progress to the play off final. However, as they could just have easily have lost last night, then I believe they should or also be fined.

The above would be fair if the spying just related to the Boro game but if they are also subsequently found guilty of the same for other games this season, whilst it is far too complicated to work out any points readjustment for the club's affected (one of whom would have replaced Southampton in the play off places of course) then they should have a points deduction carried over into next season for the punishment to be meaningful.

Got to say it's quite poor from them. I also remember our play off defeat at their place when their fans acted poorly towards us. So I'm not a huge fan of theirs.

Truth is though, I don't see any major consequences. 2-3 points deduction next time they're in the EFL and perhaps a fine is probably the worst they'll get. And if it gave them an advantage to beat Boro then that's nothing - why don't we all do it?

For me, I consider it a bit of a storm in a tea cup. A fine would suffice with perhaps a points deduction of say six points next season.

It would likely not put them in a position of relegation if they remain in the Championship but it could hurt should they be around the automatic promotion places.

If the points deduction could be carried over from the Championship to the Premier League (profitability and sustainability breaches and points deductions can be, but I am unsure if they can for a matter of spying, though I see no reason why not) then they should be applied next season in the Premier League, which would hurt in the case of Southampton being relegation fight. Other than that, they should be applied if and when the club get relegated back to the Championship.

To be fair, I have nothing against Southampton FC or their support or fans. I know many and the banter is always great and lighthearted.

You?re dead right 123. Nothing will come of it apart from a fine. The EFL won?t want the potential writ with anything other than a slapped hand.

                Poor from Southampton though!

Difficult this one! If found guilty I am not sure what punishment would be appropriate. My gut feeling is that they should be thrown out of the competition but even if they are found guilty I do not think that this will happen. It would more likely be a fine or a points deduction of some sort. It could also be both. Whatever the sanction, it is not a good look for Southampton.

Fairly straight forward for me Al. While I would be up for immediate relegation to League One for Southampton the knock on effect through the EFL would be too much hassle, so with that in mind just kick them out of the playoffs and hand them a ten point deduction for next season. One off game at a neutral venue in the Midlands between Boro and Millwall to decide who meets Hull in the Final. If Wrexham or whoever else kick up a fuss having just missed out on the top six then tough........ because they didn't make the top six to earn the right to have a say in proceedings. Job done.

Yes, but there was no legislation to cover their actions then and there is now. It depends on whether Southampton have broken the new rules. In all honesty, I do not know what they are.

I wonder if anyone secretly crept in to spy on our training during the days Eric Ramsay was directing his style and formation instructions?
Maybe the spy gave himself up and changed career

I think they should be removed from the playoffs and since they finished fourth from top, they should be replaced with the team that finished fourth from bottom.
