Anyone looking forward to it or going?

Greedy Fifa football chiefs have triggered a fan revolt by charging outrageous prices at the tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico. Looks therefore many matches have not sold out.

Football really is turning into a greed machine. Those players representing England already on huge huge wages should donate any World Cup fees or sponsorships to charity!

At least there should be no violence over there unlike at Celtic yesterday as the American Police quite rightly don?t stand for it!

Hoteliers in the various venues are stating that their bookings for the period of the World Cup are down on previous years. That says it all!

We will not be attending due to a orange man’s politics. (I am not taking this O/T) but that is the reason we decided to not go.

Like Leicesterbaggie, I read the other day (BBC news I think) that the hotels in all regions where the games are being played are underwhelmed and there bookings are indeed down on the same period for last year.

Low hotel reservations does make you wonder why. Perhaps it is the ticket prices, perhaps other factors have come into it.

We will be travelling around the UK and Ireland for six weeks so I guess we will get to see a few games. However, I am not sure I will go out of my way to do so.

I was in the USA last June July.in the Pennsylvania New York , New Jersey area.the travelling and the heat will be a big problem to the players.was bad enough walking around in it let alone playing footie.plus the sudden flash floods and storms..and yes the cost is a joke although I found eating and drinking was pretty reasonable.i have good friends there.guys I served with ex US marines so I had good guides.

We land in Miami on the 14 June just before the city host the first match so will grab the car and get going to Fort Lauderdale. Not bothered about any of the games

It was greed that founded the Premier League, it’s not a recent feature of football. I have no interest in the World Cup at all; the format is wrong, the whole thing is an absurdity, typical of FIFA, though.

I'm looking forward to it and will watch matches which are relevant or on at watchable times (again if I have an interest).
The trouble is there are so many matches it will be impossible to keep an interest in it each and every day, which will devalue it in my eyes.
First match is Mexico v South Africa I believe which I'm suprised at.
I thought the holders played the first match but perhaps I'm wrong.
Also the first game being in Mexico (though it is a Thursday and the first USA based match is on a Saturday).

Another problem is the uneven impact that the extreme costs of being able to attend this World Cup has on different countries. Despite these costs I'm sure that many from Western Europe will still travel to support their national teams but can't see very many being able to go from less well off countries such as the African nations for example.

Football in Africa is becoming increasingly more popular and the standards increasingly higher with a record nine countries from the continent having qualified for this world cup but if "ordinary fans" here cannot afford to go, ones in these nations will find it even further beyond their reach.

As Ketts alludes to, the upper reaches of the game can hardly be seen as "the people's sport" these days. I know you can't dis-invent the wheel, but I genuinely believe that the excessive monetization of the game has caused more damage than good.

Well well well.. what a surprise. BaggieAl yet again with the same post from 4 years ago asking if anyone is looking forward to the WC. Are you really English? Just why wouldn’t you not look forward to it? From flag-sha gger to ultimate betrayal of not supporting the lads. Then to top it off goes on about greed, yet thinks it’s okay that Farage taking a ‘personal gift’ donation. Why don’t you pressure Farage to donate that to charity? Does he need it? Security, yeah whatever.. just because someone keeps pouring milkshake over him. FFS. Don’t breed Al.
