  • New Rules World Cup

The following are the new rules for the 2026 World Cup matches

1 Outfield players cannot go to technical areas while goalkeeper getting treatment
    2 Five-second countdowns for goal-kicks and throw-ins
3 Ten-second substitutions ? or else one-minute sub entry delay
4 One minute off field after outfield players get treatment
5 Three-minute hydration breaks in each half
6 VAR can intervene over fouls before ball in play for goals, penalties and disciplinary sanctions
7 VAR can correct wrongly-awarded yellow cards and corners
8 Red cards for covering mouth in confrontational talk
9 Red cards for walking off pitch in protest
10 Clampdown on grappling in the penalty area

I can see England giving a few penalties away regarding rule 10 and there's going to be a lot of second counting from the crowd

I actually arrive in Miami this coming Sunday but no interest in these pampered players. I wonder if Starmer goes to any matches waving the English flag? 😭😭😭

Seems a lot of new rules to suddenly introduce.
No doubt there will be confusion, so expect a lot of managers and players jumping up and down complaining.
Always loved the world cup so will try to watch as many relevant games as possible and enjoy the competition.
I just hope that the 'action replays' of non events doesn't spoil my viewing as it has for decades.

What, no more rugby scrums in the goal mouth before the corner kick is taken? Phil's right, that and the count downs from the fans will make a few games interesting 😂

Indeed Stargazer, that is a lot of changes. A lot will be down to the referees and interpretation. I can see games regularly lasting well over 100 minutes particularly due to rule 6 & 7, though this maybe countered by rule 3.

I read the popularity of the World Cup is not what it was previously with hotels reporting a downturn in business compared to last year.

I have no doubt many, like us, would not visit the US with its current political regime. The greed of FIFA will be another cause I would imagine. Let us hope it all goes well and those that look forward to it enjoy it. I guess it will be a spectacle and no doubt at some point there will be an orange glow at one game. Let’s hope they get the same reception as they did at their recent visit to the basket ball in New York.

Come on that?s a stupid thing to say - ? many would not visit the US with its current political regime ?. FFS and heard it all now!

The majority could not care who is the leader of a country when they holiday. The majority who travel to the USA do so because they love America and do not care about politics.

Would many avoid China because of a dictator?
Would many boycott Spain because of a corrupt Socialist?
Would many boycott the UK because of a laughing stock of a PM on the international stage?

Bookings are well down for many destinations and not just the USA. How do I know that? I have been in travel for 30 years so should know.

PS - I am off to the USA this Sunday and many places it was hard to get the hotels we wanted. Football in general is losing the appeal it had together with the cost of living so that?s the main answer.

Not going to the USA because of Trump 😭😂. Do you honestly think schools would cancel their politics trips to Washington even if a teacher was a leftie! No chance!

I respect your opinion Al, however many people have left the USA due to the Trump regime and many, like myself will not pay into Trumps mind set due to his politics. Chine is a much visited country and again, I personally would not visit. I really try not to purchase anything that is made or had components manufactured in China. That of course if getting more and more difficult and I will be honest with you, my opinion of China has softened somewhat due to the orange fools policies.

I hope you enjoy the USA. For me I would not support a country which is now responsible for much misery around the world. Hunger, rape, murder, war and of course the misery it is causing globally due to an overweight orange, misogynistic, racist bully.

As I said above, I respect your opinion and the fact you support Trump in his endeavours, so I hope you enjoy your trip.

I don?t support Trump - there are good things and awful things. It?s been over the USA news about the UK refusing to let the US use bases and the issues with knives and immigrants almost daily. I bet there?s more from the US who are reluctant to visit the UK than the other way round.

I know you love Malaga and I do too as some of my family are Spanish nationals but believe me the resentful of Sanchez is growing daily with protests due to his soft left approach and corruption. Shame as the opposite in Italy.

Probably why I have never voted - they are all corrupt and for themselves. Thanks for your comment about the trip though as should be a good one.

Al, this is the situation currently. I will not say anymore on this subject unless we take it to another thread as we should not hijack this thread which is about the rule changes in the upcoming World Cup.

Many U.S. citizens, because of the political climate under Donald Trump which is the primary catalyst for leaving the country, though it is one of several motivating factors. Emigration from the United States has spiked to levels not seen since the Great Depression.

While a desire to relocate predates the Trump administration, a significant surge in Americans seeking to move abroad or secure foreign passports has occurred since his return to office. The factors driving this trend are multifaceted

The US is seeing fewer international tourists visit the United States. Following Donald Trump's inauguration, the U.S. recorded roughly 4 million fewer international visitors, marking a 5.5% drop in overseas tourism. This decline led to a loss of more than $8 billion in foreign visitor spending.

The U.S. saw a significant reduction in travelers from Canada, Germany, India, France, Australia, and China. Canadian travel experienced the sharpest decline, with border crossings and visits to major cities falling significantly.

I read that there will be three opening ceremonies, one for each conuntry, mexico, canada then USA.
I suspect Trump wont go to Mexico and Canada but I imagine Infantana will (unfortunately)

My interest in the World Cup is as low as it’s ever been; on a scale of 1 to 10, my interest is at level 1. I dislike FIFA intensely and Infantino comes across as an idiot. The whole thing seems to me to be an absurd prostitution of football, bearing little in common with what I like to see at the Hawthorns.

Another eight years and his bank account will be lined with Gold in terms of some big envelopes 😭
