  • Ipswich Manager

Kieran McKenna is leaving Ipswitch to have break from football to spend time with his family.
He is under contract till 2028 , so if he return to another club Ipswich have said they want compensation.

If he genuinely wants to spend more time with his family then I get it and good luck to him. He?s loaded so most likely does not need to work.

I remember John Hays the billionaire owner of Hays Travel who at 71 died of a heart attack in their Sunderland HQ. For me had he died on a luxury cruise ship I would have got this more!

Enjoy family whilst you can and for me if you don?t need to work for financial reasons then enjoy life. Tomorrow may never come! Many wealthy people though carry on working for greed, power and to stay relevant.

I think he has been very clever and wins on multiple levels.

If he got relegated again with Ipswich, he would have been associated with two relegations despite being very successful in growing Ipswich. No one would want that on their record despite being a realistic thing to happen. Leave them now and he is a shoe in for a mid table perm job without having to have a second relegation fight. Spend a little time with the family while he can also, such a smart move.

Was talking with some Canary fans at work last night about it and this was our general consensus too Matt

You could say that but don?t feel it was this strategy. He will always be considered by a mid table Premier team regardless because of his record - look at managers like Thomas Frank and Leeds could have ditched Farke but he did a great job.

Clearly he does not need the money and wants to spend more time with his family and it could be a scare or diagnosis. Not everyone is motivated by money because tomorrow may not come! Good on him!
