Reports this morning are saying that we have signed 22 year old Barney Stewart from Falkirk. If true, he could be another useful addition to our squad. He has scored goals in the Scottish Premiership and represented Scotland at under 21 level last season.

This is what we need young talented youngsters and not old injury prone relics on mega bucks! Seems to know where the net is!Originally posted by TipperaryBaggie View PostReports this morning are saying that we have signed 22 year old Barney Stewart from Falkirk. I'm too encouraged by the signing of some promising youngsters but I think we must also consider that doing so is likely the result of us not being able to afford decent established players as much as it is about a desire to lower the average age of the squad and a possible indication that we are looking at a rebuild over time rather than more instant success. Tbh, the latter would not overly concern me provided we can remain comfortably in the Championship and can start playing more attacking and entertaining football.Originally posted by baggieal View PostThis is what we need young talented youngsters and not old injury prone relics on mega bucks! We have been in that position before, expensive loans/frees on the older and experienced side. The aim was quick success rather than long term growth. When it doesnt work you have older lads on high wages and you cant get rid of them.Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostI'm too encouraged by the signing of some promising youngsters but I think we must also consider that doing so is likely the result of us not being able to afford decent established players as much as it is about a desire to lower the average age of the squad and a possible indication that we are looking at a rebuild over time rather than more instant success. We can no longer compete with the bigger sides financially. So we need assets to sell to generate money and put us back in a strong position. Younger lads with talent will do that.

We need to be a Brentford or Brighton Omeg and find quality young players and sell them on for a huge profit. Well done Jimmy so far!Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostI'm too encouraged by the signing of some promising youngsters but I think we must also consider that doing so is likely the result of us not being able to afford decent established players as much as it is about a desire to lower the average age of the squad and a possible indication that we are looking at a rebuild over time rather than more instant success. Rather lose with young players breaking sweat than expensive dross like Wallace etc

I'd prefer it if we managed to keep hold of any unearthed gems we might find for a while at least before entertaining selling them but I understand your thinking Al. In any event, a much brighter start to the transfer window than I'm sure most of us anticipated.Originally posted by baggieal View PostWe need to be a Brentford or Brighton Omeg and find quality young players and sell them on for a huge profit. Great time so far Omeg and thanks for asking. Just been to West Palm Beach and the wealth is staggering. Driven past Trumps house and was going to stop and send your regards but security towers and armed police cars all outside. Wow - what a placeOriginally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostI'd prefer it if we managed to keep hold of any unearthed gems we might find for a while at least before entertaining selling them but I understand your thinking Al. Pity you couldn't get in to pass on my regards to Donald (I'm sure you'd know pretty well what they might be!) but maybe you might be able to sneak back later and wrench some of the inevitable gold plating off the walls to smuggle back home. You could donate the proceeds to the club and maybe help secure Imray for us next season?😀Originally posted by baggieal View PostGreat time so far Omeg and thanks for asking. Anyhow, glad you are having a great time and have a nice glass of red for me later (if you've not already begun -I've no idea what the time difference is!)

Al,sorry, but I think that you are very unfair of your description of Jed Wallace; dross is certainly what he is not, he may be past his best but he has served this club well and been an excellent captain.Originally posted by baggieal View PostWe need to be a Brentford or Brighton Omeg and find quality young players and sell them on for a huge profit. He was on the decline two years ago Ketts when Fellows was a different class. For the last two years and not his fault he?s been very injury prone and his legs have gone. If he secures another deal on anywhere near 30K a week then there?s hope for Zohore. Just my opinion of course but everything that?s been wrong with us - sky high wages - injury prone players and slow. Grant is another who can move on and not many will cry but doubt he will match the deal elsewhere so no doubt another year of no end product.Originally posted by kettering_baggie View PostAl,sorry, but I think that you are very unfair of your description of Jed Wallace; dross is certainly what he is not, he may be past his best but he has served this club well and been an excellent captain.

Like a fortress Omeg with watch towers and armed guards everywhere and cars can?t stop for photos. Donald loved in Florida with loads of car banners and flags with his name on.Originally posted by Omegstrat6 View PostPity you couldn't get in to pass on my regards to Donald (I'm sure you'd know pretty well what they might be!) but maybe you might be able to sneak back later and wrench some of the inevitable gold plating off the walls to smuggle back home. Another World West Palm Beach with not many properties less than 50 million and the boats alone are something out of a movie. My bottle of Californian red at 25 bucks makes me feel like an outcast 😭😭😭

Hi Al, Must be great to see that and experience a different kind of world as you say (even if your 25 dollar red won't gain you entry to it 😂Originally posted by baggieal View PostLike a fortress Omeg with watch towers and armed guards everywhere and cars can?t stop for photos. but I think that if I saw it myself, I would ultimately also feel a bit angry at the blatant inequalities of it all. I always remember my brother-who worked for a company specialising in environmental impact as part of financial risk assessment and so used to travel a lot internationally-feeling the same when visiting Saudi. He would pass through these really poor, deprived, areas of the country and then deal with these extremely wealthy business men and princes living in extravagant opulence who showed scant-if any-concern for their poorer countrymen.
I know inequality is just the way of the world and that "money begets money" but it's the injustice-for want of a better word- that gets me. Of course there is likely a degree of envy about this as I'm sure we would all like to be able to afford nice holidays/ houses/ cars/ lifestyles but it's not really that. Maybe it's about the nature of some of these individuals, I don't know. There has always been inequality and there always will be but perhaps a lot of my feelings over this are more to do with how such individuals behave and whether they also use their wealth (and attendant power) to do "good" or help others rather than simply act selfishly. Sadly, human nature means that the old adage of power corrupting or the Bible's passage regarding a camel, the eye of a needle and a rich man largely stand.
Some have worked hard for what they have, some have inherited their wealth and some have exploited others to build on their wealth. Trump, for example, has all this money but -as many of his critics point out-he isn't a "successful" business man in terms of actually creating things other than his own wealth and so many of his ventures have failed badly. What he is undoubtedly good at however is playing the system and grifting.
Anyhow, apologies for chuntering on and the digression! Enjoy the sun and hope you continue to have a great time!
