  • Drones in Poland

Given that NATO is weak and two countries Hungary and Slavakia are still buying Russian Oil - any thoughts on what the reaction should be?

Don?t stand up to a bully - the bully keeps coming back and back! Remember too Trump slapped a huge tariff on India but what have the U.K. done since the Tool Maker was jumping up and down about the India Trade Deal? Cancelled the deal? No!

    Any thoughts?

I think, maybe it is now time to factor out Trump as his continued stalling and muted responses to the escalations of either Putin or Netanyahu surely prove that the Orange One has no real backbone and cannot be relied upon.

Of course, no one wants more bloodshed but Putin has long played a game of chicken with the West, using veiled threats and sabre rattling alongside his warped logic to justify his "special operation" in Ukraine and the West has always backed down. Time for other NATO members to finally step up. Bullies sadly only understand one thing.

That number of drones over Poland cannot have been a mistake. Knowing Trump's weakness on the issue, Putin is pushing the boundaries to see how far he can go with the so called Coalition of the Willing (remind anyone of a certain ex Austrian corporal?) and he has already made his plans plain over recovering territories lost since the break up of the USSR. IMHO, the concerns of countries bordering Russia are far from unwarranted if Putin is continued to be left largely unchecked.

Given the depletion of Russian weaponry and military manpower, this is perhaps the time to put boots on the ground in Ukraine and ramp up military aid. Of course, Putin will say this then makes any such NATO personnel "legitimate" targets but they then have to make it crystal clear that the consequences of this will be retaliatory attacks on Russia itself. Even Putin will surely have to think twice then, regardless of any rhetoric he might spout.

As for any NWO alliances, I really do not believe that either China or India will lend Putin the kind of direct support N Korea may so it would be mostly come down to a western European alliance v Russia confrontation. Trump, meanwhile, can wring his hands on the side lines but will doubtless also try and position himself into the role of the negotiator who prevented WW3.

War should, of course, always be avoided where at all possible but ultimately lines have to be drawn somewhere.

Another thought. Many may think we have enough domestic problems As it is and that whilst what is happening in Ukraine is blatantly wrong and Putin is a narcissistic bully, ultimately Ukraine is not a member of NATO and so we should not become involved anymore than we already have. Putin has no plans to take over Western Europe so it doesn't really matter and he is no direct threat to ourselves.

But GCHQ have shown that Russia does present a threat to us and the fact that both Sweden and Finland so recently chose to join NATO after decades of not electing to do so through out the Cold War surely indicates a genuine concern over Putin's ambitions?

The UK has not been a global super power since Edwardian times and "splendid isolation" is not an option. Our defence is very much dependent on alliances with others. If we forsake such alliances, then where does that leave us and what does it say about a nation that once prided itself for (belatedly) standing up to Hitler? Hitler, remember, had no previous aims of directly getting into a war with Britain and no ambitions to take us over either. Should we have then continued to adopt a policy of appeasement?

Agree with all this Omeg and don?t like Trump but many would say he?s done so much more than NATO. Trump has put a significant tariff on India - As Starmer cancelled the recent trade deal with India to do our part? No so why not?

Trump has allowed long range missiles to be sold to NATO with permission for them to be used. If you remember it was sleepy Joe who refused request after request for the Ukrainians to fire long range missiles.

China and N Korea seem to be massively helping the Russians but we are still cosying up to the Chinese. Can Hungary and Slovakia be forced to provide missiles and help like all the other NATO countries or be thrown out of the alliance? What about every other NATO country matching the 4% plus of GDP of the Americans and Poland? Surely it?s got to come where best to spend financials - defence or bank rolling every Tom, Dick and Mohammed entering this country?

Drastic action from tough leaders. Dislike Trump but Starmer is a coward and has no balls whatsoever!

I can’t see Putin backing down at all, he’ll keep going probably believing that no one will stand their ground and stop him. Echoes of the start of the Second World War, Poland was the final straw then, too!

Lets hope Poland today, don't get the same guarantees that they got back in the 30's or we are in trouble...

We are in NATO along with Poland, so that pretty much means that if Poland is attacked we will be at war! Somewhat frightening.

Worked with a Polish woman a few years ago. Nice enough person but by God she could drone on....... and on and on and on all day every bloody day. Enough to give a glass eye narcolepsy.

If you want to stop Putin in his tracks forget NATO. Just get her on Line One. Trust me, this will all be over in no time for us but it'll feel like an eternity for Vlad. He'd probably impale himself somewhere just to make it stop 😎.
