Ryan Mason has offered an update on the fitness of five members of his first-team squad.

The boss revealed some disappointing news regarding young defender Alex Williams, stating the academy graduate has had surgery on an ankle injury sustained while away with Wales? Under-21s team.

Mason also said Krystian Bielik, signed in the summer from Birmingham City, has been training with the senior group, but trio Karlan Grant, Tammer Bany and Daryl Dike remain sidelined.

The boss said: ?Krystian started training with us this week. That?s really positive and it will be good to have him back in the squad after a period of time out.

?We?re assessing Karlan Grant daily. Tammer Bany and Daryl Dike are still injured, but they?re a little bit closer to returning to training. They?re not with the group yet, but Karlan will probably be out a little longer.

?Unfortunately, Alex picked up quite a bad injury while he was away with Wales? Under-21s. He had to have surgery on his ankle and he?ll be out for a period of time.

?It?s disappointing for Alex and for us. The game before the international break against Stoke he came on, so to pick up that injury just a few days later while on international duty is disappointing.

?We?ll support him and I?m sure he?ll come back stronger and a better player.?

Time to get shot of Dike in January, looks like Bany is a Dike mk2

Dike might like to contribute some of his 30K salary to the Albion Foundation due to playing a handful of games whilst here. Not his fault?
Not a club in financial difficulties either!

    Get rid of him!

I feel for Dike but clearly we are getting nothing in return on the pitch for whatever we pay him. The problem, of course, is that getting rid is a lot easier said than done. His contract runs out at the end of this season so unless some kind of miracle happens and he recovers to come back and turns out to be a prolific goal scorer he will then depart on a free but at least we will save on his wages.

Bany has been much touted as a player recruited to fit the profile the club was looking for but tbh I am unsure about the nature of his injury?

Feel sorry for young Alex but hope he recovers soon. More worrying perhaps (because we don't see Dike or Bany anyway) is Grant being out for a while longer. He may not score many goals or have Mikey's magic on the ball but he has demonstrated a great work ethic and can bring energy to the team. Certainly better than Wallace and not having him fit limits Mason's options.

Bany is the one we really want to see back but he has nearly had a year out of football and that takes its toll on a players ability.

I hope hes mentally, physically and technically good enough. We really need him.

Dike is done in my opinion. I dont think we will see him again this season and if we do it will be mini cameos.

You can bet your bottom dollar Dike will put every effort into being fit for the World Cup hosted in the USA. No sympathy now from me collecting the highest wage in the club when the club still have financial difficulties and some kids are not even fortunate to attend a single game.

Come on Al, this is a daft post. The mental toll his injuries have had on him, you can see the anguish whenever he pulls up.

His career has finished and he will likely retire at the end of his contract with us. He has a contract which protects him if things go wrong, why wouldnt he accept it?

I guarantee that if you had the ability to put yourself in his shoes, you wouldnt make a different decision.

Id say with almost certainty that he will have done everything he can to get fit and wouldnt be prioritising country over club. He will be about 10th in line for getting into USA squad anyway now.

Well excuse me. Never ever let the t e eny weeny triviality of a legally binding financial contract get in the way of a frustrated rant in the direction of a player. Especially not an injured one we've barely seen since their arrival.

Kindly put your brain in a bucket and carefully place it to one side while you absorb this information. No idea whether the following will come as a comfort but I'm sure it's in the forum rules somewhere. You're most welcome 😎.

We are all frustrated by Dikes injury. Im challenging the thought that he should just give up millions because hes unlucky enough to get injured.

Excuse yourself pal. And stick your sarcastic post in the bucket, followed by another location 😎
