  • Cunningham or Regis

I was asked this at Boro who was my favourite player. For me Regis was brilliant but loved Cunningham for his ball skills. Remember when we did Orient away when we drew 0-0 and their fans loved him.

If you were pressed who was your favourite player of the two?

Genuinely don't think I could answer that! Both Albion legends but both offered different things. A bit like asking me to name my favourite artist, actor, author, singer or guitar player.

On balance I would go for Regis, on the basis I saw more of him than the equally talented Cunningham.
As an aside, I am old enough to remember watching Derek Kevan who was a much more prolific goal scorer than Cyrille, albeit in a different footballing style / environment.

For technical ability I'd go for Laurie. A wonderfully poised and well balanced talent during the relatively short time we were blessed with him playing for Albion. Beautiful to watch him skipping past the opposition and I just wish I could have seen him play more often.

Cyrille's raw strength and power caught the attention but there was also a very adept technical side to his game. I consider myself very fortunate to have met the great man on a couple of occasions.

Two different players with very different careers. Can't separate them in terms of a favourite. We'd have been fortunate to have one but were truly blessed to have both together even if only for a short time.

Good post Danny! You have summed up Laurie so well - skipping past the opposition!
