That?s it - the tool makers son has well and truly lost the plot. Yeah right -that will really stop the boats or those working on the black market for cash😭. It?s made no difference in other EU Countries.

What it does do though is another way of controlling the innocent folk and a total waste of money. Even the Covid tests were easily fiddled from positive to negative and carried unnecessary cost FFS.

    I won?t be having one!

I would have preferred singing lessons from a young Agnetha F?ltskog 😂

Quite apart from concerns that enforced carrying of a digital ID smacks of dystopian visions of a totalitarian state, the sheer costs v benefits do not seem to make sense. Yes, it will help stop legitimate companies from recruiting illegal workers but, as Al says, it won't stop many black market ones from either paying cash in hand or fiddling their employment records so as not to get caught out.

With technology, it's always a race between criminal enterprises and legit concerns to get ahead so, for those with the money, fraudulent digital IDs will likely not take long to become available.

Have to agree with those who feel this is too much of a gimmick.

No professional companies would employ anybody without an NI number Omeg and an HR Dept. The companies that employ these sort of workers will be little businesses such as the sweat shops in places like Leicester and businesses who can?t get the staff ie Uber Eats and small greedy hoteliers. All cash!

Never had Uber Eats/Deliveroo as the thought of who may deliver it would put me off!

I won?t be having one of these cards!

This digital card will come in one day but at the mo i dont think this will even get past the House of Lords. There will be/is too much opposition so for now they are just testing the water. Anyway I doubt this Government will be in power long enough to get it across the line...but the next government might

Will that be the Trump government after the UK becomes the 51st state? Or the Putin government…………

Weirdly these digital ID type thingies don't appear to have done much in the way of preventing people landing on mainland Europe before extending their journeys to the UK. How odd. It's almost as though they're not as useful as was originally hoped......

The EU is creating a personal digital wallet for every EU citizen to use for both online and offline public and private services across the EU. Find out more.

...... when you think about it it's like we never even left the EU. There's a petition about the introduction of digital IDs in this country somewhere and it seems to be growing in popularity. There were only 1,000,000 signatures on it when I looked the other day........

We demand that the UK Government immediately commits to not introducing a digital ID cards. There are reports that this is being looked at.

....... I never even knew there was a petition until I decided to have a look. Anybody would think it's a big secret.

Total waste of money and another attempt to pretend they are trying to curb illegal immigration. As you have said it?s done zilch in the EU and illegals are working for cash and unscrupulous outfits!

Starmer is clearly rattled and resorts to poor language towards Reform rather than tackle the issues and frustration of millions.

The country will well and truly be bankrupt with the increasing costs of illegal immigration and still almost 1,000 per day enter and so far not even 10 have been deported. Wait for more bad news from the girl from Accounts in November and then those people will look at increasing costs elsewhere and be even more angry!

Agreed. According to my TV we won't be able to work in our own country without the app apparently. So what happens to millions of people currently in employment and paying full NI if they decide they don't want the app?

Will the government put them on benefits with their jobs given to the new neighbours so the economy can keep running? And what about the self employed tradesmen/pronouns? And the business owners who employ who knows how many who in turn also pay who knows how much in NI?

It's almost as though they're trying really hard to introduce the two tier system of access to society the last lot of incompetents tried to introduce a few years back following Covid. You'll need an app to gain full access to a football forum at this rate.

Keep yer eyes peeled, The Lizards are coming 😉.

Update. I have no idea what if any good it's going to do but circa 2.5M people and counting have signed that petition now. The ID app may come in, it may not.

But if anyone needs an explanation as to why it shouldn't there's probably not much point in trying to explain the reasons to them as they will likely never understand.

There are so many things wrong with the concept of needing dignital access to society that I quite honestly would not know where to begin as it is potentially so open to abuse from above.

And that's before we consider the security aspects associated with people's personal details etc. A ticking time bomb. A potentially very expensive one for all concerned given national security and data breaches of all kinds.

If I were a hacker, biddy biddy biddy biddy.......

Totally agree 68. Load even more critical data onto digital storage, what could possibly go wrong?

If you use a smart phone, significantly more data is held about you than you realise. The horse has already bolted on your data being out in the ether.

Agreed. S hit isn't it Matt? Doesn't mean we have to agree to absolutely anything and everything at a political whim though. Data is one thing. An enormous one thing.

Agreeing to a potentially automatic off button to your earning capacity and access to everyday life is something entirely different; and that's exactly what this is/could mean.

I know. I can’t really understand the benefits of it but also dont think it will be a big deal.

Surveillance on me wouldnt bother me at all. Im quite a boring man, they would soon stop.

In terms of misuse, I dont think they would dare. We all know the only way of controlling people in the uk is to distract them with immigrants.
