  • Good Win

We lived dangerously at times but a good win.

Special praise to Griffiths who was superb and seems to have found his confidence since Furlong who could NOT defend left - plus some good defensive players brought in!

Well done lads and yes Wallace played well too when he came on. Price disappointed again for me,

Was unable to watch the match as I was working. Norwich fans moaning about their own team not moving the ball quickly enough and they're getting quite disgruntled about their home form but despite the win, the stats suggest that we made hard work of it. Certainly we had less touches in their half than they did in ours and they had more shots, won more tackles and had a higher percentage of accurate passes to go along with more possession.

Stats don't tell the whole story of course but reads like if it wasn't for Griffiths we wouldn't have taken the three points. I know that a win is a win and that Mason obviously also has his eye on the Millwall game but In recent outings we have played well but either lost or drawn, so I'm just curious to see how others viewed our performance tonight?

For me very scrappy and we were lucky!! Norwich though are decent and Griffiths saved us. Price again for me was a spectator and we need for creativeness and talent in midfield.

Defensively very good, but hardly a threat going forward, show no interest in scoring a second goal, all backwards and sideways rubbish again, (has Corberan returned?), Griffiths saved us from an embarrassing defeat, their keeper was a spectator for most of the game, 3 points is 3 points but a massive improvement needed v Millwall, to be honest a was bored to death with our performance

          Thanks both👍

When I heard Maja had scored, my first thought was that with so much time left to play we needed a second, especially given Norwich's desire for a home win. Obviously we didn't show too much attacking intent to get one. As you say Bomber, we will need to be far more at it against Millwall.

We won 4 times away from home last season. 3 times already this season. There is a reason for this, which is our tactics to grind out results.

Unless youre superior to the opponent, away games are supposed to be tight, based on defence more than attack and snotty.

It might not be pretty, but winning away rarely is.

We rode our luck in this one and perhaps could have attacked more, but we got the result. Winning away from home is a bit of an art that Corberan couldnt master but Mason has.

From my point of view, this sums up last nights performance. Far too slow with little attacking intent. Yes, we gained three points but we could so easily have come away with nothing. As many have commented, Griffiths earned us the win. I hope that this approach is not what the future holds!

I am in Greece at the moment and wasn't able to get anywhere near a tv so watched the highlights on WBA TV this morning. The credit should obviously go to Griffiths who came up with his best display of the season so far. Reading other reports, it appeared that we sat back in the second half and rode our luck a little bit. We were overdue this sort of luck after the games against Derby and Leicester but personally, I see it as dangerous and would rather we didn't resort to these tactics. The game against Millwall will be interesting after their mauling last night. They will either be very down or approach the game like a wounded animal.

We will see at Millwall! I would like Collyer to start to see what he can do as still say Mowatt and Molumby are not a great pairing as too slow and no creativity.

While many may be disappointed in the manner of the victory last night, I am more interested in how our home form pans out now. We have won three away from home. Our home form needs to be improved, otherwise we are just threading water. It seems like an age since we had a season when we were good away as well as at home. We usually only get one. But if we are serious about finishing mid-table, we need to start proving difficult to beat at home as well.

We sat back too early for me. At the same time the players either took the wrong option or poorly executed the final ball on too many occasions when breakaways were very definitely on. It wasn't all down to the manager or his chosen tactics.

This made the final half an hour a more uncomfortable and harder watch than strictly necessary. Mason is laying the foundations for a solid team one brick at a time but there's no denying Josh Griffiths dug us out of a hole.

It's still very early days. It isn't spectacular but it's more sustainable than sending players out in a tactical blindfold in the hope they trip over their inner child somewhere along the way as was the case with a more recent experienced manager.

Ps. Personal observation. The return journey on an away day is generally a far better experience following a win than it is bemoaning our luck when we've been the superior side in every stat apart from the one which ultimately counts. Solid foundations support the best of houses 😎.

For me a solid foundation is built from the back. I prefer a 1-0 win then a 5-3 win any day. But of course I don't attend matches so the entertainment value is not the same for me. We had a great season years a go when I think we won promotion built on a solid 1-0 ethos by Gary......

Dubbag I get your sentiments and agree about being defensively strong, however my nerves can sometimes be stretched when we are only a goal in front with minutes to go, as often we seem to concede late on.

As for foundations, most successful things are built on them, from buildings to one?s morals and stability. Anything build on poor foundation is sure to fail.

I think you have to go back to Odenwingie for our last proper goal scorer and that is a good few seasons back. Truth iis we haven't had any proper goal scorer since so for me having the tightest defense is vi-tal. Rarely do we have the luxury of being two or three goals up in a game. Part of the deal with The Baggies.
