Johston move off apparently. Failed medical.

Worst of all worlds if true. Discontented player, not wanted by the club, medical issue, value plummeted.

Failed medical is fake but the move is off.. Johnston travelling to Austria. Does this affect the Heggebo signing?

All a bit weird isn't it? I understand that Flamengo's interest in him was due to him impressing their current sporting director, Jose Boto, whilst he was on loan in Portugal. Even so, whilst Mikey can certainly have his moments of magic, he is certainly inconsistent and the question of why a top Brazilian club may want a player who could not secure his position at Celtic and has been mostly disappointing for a Championship club like ourselves is a moot one. Yes, £5 million isn't probably a lot of money for Flamengo who would surely expect to pay considerably more for any player they thought would push for a consistent first team place but it doesn't feel right.

Talk of a failed medical seems just idle speculation as he wasn't even due to get on the plane to fly out there for it until Tuesday and do we believe the other stories about a backlash from Flamengo fans? I know that players from Northern Europe are a rarity in South American football, but seems a stretch.

Tbh, I'd still be happy to keep him as I think finding a replacement left winger to better him would be difficult given our finances. My concern is both how much this now puts the Heggebo move in jeopardy and how much pressure it puts on the club to gain financial elbow room by selling more sought after players like Fellows or Price.

I don't think there is £5 mill spare at the club right now. I would say so.
How the fcuk in the modern era does a player fail a medical? This is not Asa Heartford times....

Something going on but think the whole failed medical story is fabrication Dubs.

Used to like Hartford when he was with us btw. Seem to remember that the issue around his medical was when Leeds found he had an issue with his heart and his transfer fell through. Can't recall if it was a heart murmer or something else but didn't stop him from getting a move elsewhere and continuing his career. Too lazy to look it up but think he moved to Man City?

Football League World reporting that Johnston's move falling through won't impact on us signing Heggebo. That's good news but whilst getting Diangana and Swift off the books has helped the wage costs, unless we can generate more financial leeway through selling players, we will struggle to bring anyone else in.

Haven't read anything recently about Everton's interest in Fellows but would guess the likes of Fellows, Price and Heggem would all attract attention from other clubs. Reports too about interest from Derby over Grant.

West Brom still plan to secure the signing of Aube Heggebo despite Mikey Johnston's transfer to Flamengo falling through.

Heggebo deal should still go through.

I cant help but think regarding Fellows that some Prem teams have an eye on him but only after they cant nail a better option. A back up option.

Don't disagree with you Boingy as he (hopefully!) isn't the finished article yet but Prem clubs are almost certainly monitoring him even if he is regarded as a second choice option. Don't know whether Everton's interest has waned?

Personally, I'd like to be able to hold on to him for the coming season if possible. 4 goals and 14 assists last season.

Any interest in Bartley - Furling - Wallace or Dike? How long is the queue of clubs desperate to have them?

About as long as the one for Devante Cole I should imagine 😁

In all fairness, if Ryan Mason can knock the complacency out of Furlong and get him playing as Corberan managed to do, I wouldn't be too opposed to keeping him. Of course he is better going forward than defending but the role of old fashioned LB/RB seems to have been replaced by wing back these days. But if he does stay then he will have to wake up and be both more aware and more committed to his defensive duties.

Likely heart over head this, but given the severity of his run of injuries whilst with us, I really hope that things work out for Dike this season and that he gets his chance and can fulfil the potential he showed when he first joined. He at least seems to have the right attitude and photos from Austria show that he is also leaner now so has worked to lose some of that weight he carried.

I?ve never seen anything other than 100% commitment from furlong. It?s right what you say. He?s been playing his role.

I am sure even Devante Cole is 100% committed and like Wallace a good Pro. The point in question is if they forget to defend or can?t hit a barn door then it?s mid table obscurity at best.

Maybe Mason will change the system and only have Furlong at the back as a 1970s full back. Who knows.
