Italy's 1982 World Cup hero Paolo Rossi has died aged 64, his family says.

Rossi became a household name after leading the Azzurri to victory at the tournament in Spain, finishing as top scorer and being named best player.

At club level he first came to prominence as a prolific scorer for Vicenza, earning a move to Juventus and later playing for AC Milan.

His death was announced on Thursday, following what Italian media report had been a long illness.

The lasting memory is the PE exercise in one of the Carry on films, when a certain item of clothing flew off. The effect it had on a blue bloodied young man.

Thanks for the memories R.I.P. Babbs

Greavesy's thread claims another. John Le Carre, 89 yrs old died of complications related to pneumonia. Although best known as the creator of "George Smiley" he was an incredible writer who wrote a significant number of brilliant novels mostly derived from his own somewhat turbulent life, his dad was an accomplished co man and he himself was a "spy" for MI5. Have read all his books at least once, can't believe that's it.

                    RIP JLC.

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has died at the age of 73.

The Frenchman managed the Reds from 1998-2004 and led them to five major trophies, including the FA Cup, League Cup and Uefa Cup treble in 2000-01.

Prior to Liverpool, Houllier managed Lens, Paris St-Germain and the French national team, and after leaving the Reds won two Ligue 1 titles at Lyon.

His last managerial job was at Aston Villa, but he left in 2011 after nine months, following heart problems.
