A few quid from the cup run as well, a shame the new town centre ground never happened a few years ago, I think it would’ve been a real game changer for them.

Thanks for that Bix. When I was a youngster just after the war I used to stay at my Grans weekends in Coburg Street just a couple of hundred yards from there. My closest friend and I used to go to the old Redheugh Park one week and St. James' the alternate week.
Happy days. Gateshead was in the old 3rd div. North those days
Also Giid to see South Shields doing well, although when I checked out the results before I think they lost today but are still at the right end of the NPL table.
The original Gatehead club came from South Shields and was South Shields Adelaide formed 1899, joined the league in 1919 but went bust in 1930 and was taken over by Gateshead AFC.Quote:

Yeah, I’ve heard about the South Shields ~ Gateshead thing from some of the older gents when I used to watch Whitley Bay in the late 80’s & early 90’s as a téénager and young bloke. There’s a history of northern outposts not getting elected back in the day like Workington, Barrow, Southport etc. in favour of southern clubs. When we rise again, there will be a lot of anger in certain parts of London :D
