Will prices ever come down?

I’ll make this prediction here and now.......I don’t think things will reduce.

Even if raw material costs do start to drop I know that in my own industry the price we pay for goods won’t drop.

They’ll all think that people have become accustomed to this hideous “new normal” and continue to hammer everyone and just make bigger profits as their costs decrease.

On energy prices, if the average household bill was £1200 a year ago and it goes to £6600 next year does anyone seriously believe we’ll ever see annual bills of circa £1200 per annum again?

Of course we won’t.

You only have to look at previous petrol price increases, they shoot up and come down to just higher than what they used to. It’s almost like conditioning us to think ‘oh it’s come down a lot’ but actually we’re paying more than it used to be.

I really hope people in the UK leave in their droves. If i could, i’d move to France but wife will never. We have family in NZ with acres and acres of farms and land which would make sense to go to, problem is it’s too far from everyone and everything else. But I can see and i hope it happens.. mass immigration out. Hope it happens to the point that those at the top suffer apocalyptically.
How ironic and hilarious would it be to see brits going over to France in a dinghy.

Whats really ironic is that it has taken Putin and the war to actually get governments to start addressing the climate conditions...
We have a huge and very real war with nature. It's a war we don't win.
Science has known for years that this was coming and haven't been listened to by governments simply because they know people want cheap cheap cheap everything. But of course there has to be a price to pay.
Unfortunately about twenty years ago, we all thought it wouldn't be in our life time. BUT IT IS IN OUR LIFE TIME.
Glad I have no children to be concerned with cause they are royally screwed.
I see no way of avoiding a mass extermination event on the not to distanced horizon, so I wouldn't worry about prices rising.
We have screwed up big time but fcuk it, the sooner we reach ammageddon the better.
We might avoid relegation as an upside....O:)

Don't know if it's still true but pre Covid the only Brits moving to France were has been retirees like me. Young go ahead Frenchies were coming to the UK because their prospects were so much brighter.

The future kind of has to be that prices drop or wages match the increase, otherwise the economy will collapse. How many people are putting off buying a car, a house, a holiday etc because the money needs to pay for fuel and energy? That will really take hold when the price hikes actually hit.

We’re heading toward a hell of a recession, no doubt about it.

Yes we are Matt and there isn’t a lot we can do about it.

We have not developed renewables and have got into bed with devil instead. Putin had the west where he wanted them and took full advantage. Demand for gas/electricity gone through the roof as the world comes out of Covid restrictions. He knew we were screwed if we (the west) stopped buying from Russia and took the opportunity to grab Crimea and then Ukraine.

Do you seriously think gas prices will drop before the winter of 2023 or even 2024? No chance unless Putin is persuaded to stop the war (unlikely) or the west go back to buying Russian gas (unlikely).

The west is doomed economically until we get renewables in place, you may as well accept that.

I think we’re heading for a depression like in the 1920’s rather than a recession.

I remember experts saying that Bin Laden or those of his ilk only needed to attack the West’s electricity supply and water supply to bring us down.

I never thought of power being weaponised in the way that Putin has though.

Those in power should’ve known about this though.

The political party that makes a promise to make us self sufficient in energy within ten years will get my vote at the next election, I’m now beyond being wedded to any party.

The Tory leadership race taking over two months is endemic of what’s wrong with politics, their pathetic constitutional rules being put ahead of a national crisis beggars belief.

That “race” could’ve been done in a fortnight max!!

I don’t care about the members voting, the MP’s should’ve voted and the rules changed to allow that.

I’ll even vote Lib Dem if they have the right energy policy.

Bank of England think inflation will slow next year and go back to the 2% target in 2 years. But the question is whether wages will catch-up or will the government package support the rise in costs while wages slowly creep up.

Wages won’t keep up, that’s pretty much a given so we rely on the government to fix the issue. If they don’t, businesses will fall and unemployment will rise. That will lead to them funding energy anyway through welfare so it’s a no brainer to pay for the increase and keep us with disposable income.

Who knows, could all be a perfect storm!

Mick....the world no longer does economic depressions as we found out with the bail out of private banks just over a decade ago.
Two consecutive back to back quarters of negative contraction constituted an economic recession, and three consecutive back to back quarters of negative economic contraction signals a depression, similar to the classic 1930's style depression.
But you can't say these words anymore and the media outlets will obey.
More cleansing of words to keep people in sleep mode.
But again when they started using terms like "Theater of war" or "Collateral damage" for people dying in a war, I realized along time ago that the truth is always hidden from plain sight.
