Colour change.

Am I being insensitive in thinking that Wales and Ireland having to change their traditional colour shirts for the Six Nations rugby is a step too far. The reason being that 4.5% of the male population are colour blind between the colours of red and green. Surely a reasonable solution would be for the teams to keep their traditional colour shirts with one team wearing black shorts and socks and the other wearing white shorts and socks. In the days of black and white television the sides did not change their colours unless both sides played in the same colour. We managed to watch those games. I would be interested to know the opinions of others as perhaps I am wrong.

As it turns out Wales, as the home team, play in red shirts, and Ireland in white. A better outcome than both changing.

With you on this Leics. The idea of keeping the shirts in traditional colours but using shorts/socks to better distinguish between the two teams seems a far more common-sense approach.

I am ever so slightly colour blind on these two colours myself but fortunately not to any significant degree to affect me. Never had any trouble watching games on black and white tv. Sometimes tonal differences can help.

For 8%+ of the male population that like me are colour blind green could well clash with red. That's potentially 6,000 paying customers and a few hundred thousand watching on TV on Saturday with a problem easily solved by Ireland wearing green shorts. Not too much to ask is it?
