I've read somewhere that Everton are going to keep the stadium, at least for the time being. This is remarkable. Old stadia are usually demolished ASAP to cash in on sale and "development" to the inevitable bland & soulless retail park.

The 1894 FA Cup final was contested by Notts County and Bolton Wanderers at Goodison Park. Notts County won 4–1, with goals by James Logan (3) and Arthur Watson. Jim Cassidy scored for Bolton. Notts County became the first team, following the formation of the Football League in 1888, from outside the top flight to win the FA Cup. Date: 31 March 1894. Attendance c. 37,000.
Perhaps when Goodison does get demolished Notts can purchase some significant item of the structure to be put into Meadow Lane?

I enjoyed many Goodison games as a kid - watching Liverpool beat them. I only saw Notts there once, under Warnock's management. I think Notts lost. Good ground though.
We won 5-1 there in front of just under 50k with Lawton but since then our record is abysmal. Lost every subsequent visit apart from the draw in the league cup in 1975 (we won the Meadow Lane replay to reach the QFs).Quote:

Other than winning the final there, we had one FAC tie on that ground v Everton in 1954 and lost 2-1, plus the aforementioned 1975 League Cup draw.
We'd been there once before the 1894 FA Cup final in the league, losing 0-6 but did have a 4 match winning sequence soon after the cup win.
Last Notts player to ever score on that ground, Ian McParland.
That 5-1 win at Goodison on 20 October 1951 was when a crowd of 49,604 saw Tommy Lawton?s return to Goodison. But Tommy didn?t score. The Notts hero was 20-year-old Jimmy Jackson, who found the net four times.
As UTM mentions, our first game at Goodison was a 6-0 defeat on 7 January 1893. We?d played Everton four times before this, when they played at Anfield, losing all four games.
My standout memory of Goodison is the 2-2 draw in the League Cup on 11 November 1975 and the nightmare return home in thick fog. Can that famous cup run, when we also won at Elland Road, really be 50 years ago? Time flies, as they say!
I'm not sure how the economics will stack up, but it's a great boost for the women's game that Everton Ladies will have such a prestigious stadium as their home. Fair play for paying their female team such respect.Quote:
