Exactly. Some of the hype is toe curlingly embarrassing.
When I started this thread more than a week ago, the club had stated that about 6,000 tickets had been sold for all the matches. I would say that that figure was just about right then and just about right on the night of the two matches so far.
When international matches have been played at NYS in the past, the reported ticket sales has never been reflected in attendances. One of the problems is that the official figure included freebies to schools and community groups, and many who have been given freebies couldn't bother to turn up.
It is not clear how many freebies have been distributed for the Euros but this could possibly go some way to explaining the discrepancy.
That's pretty much how I understood it Patty. I guess they call the freebie allocation as 'Sold'/'occupied' so whether they turn up or not would still be reflected in the actual attendance figure.
Similar to if we sold 8k season tickets, had a disasterous season and only half of those 8k were turning up, as I understand it the figure would still be 8k attended? Is that about right?
I was looking on Twitter last night and someone had put on that they'd paid £3.50 for a Twix. Someone had said that £6.50 for a drink and chocolate bar.
Incredible!
