He was a negative bassa, who continually over thought things. As another poster said, his fist pumping at taking St Mirren to the lottery of pens in the play-off was embarrassing, when he should have tried to take advantage of them being down to 10 men.
His continuous “tombola” team selection also frustrated the life out of many of us.
At least get your facts right before you come on here he failed to get United up at first attempt so it’s 3 out of 4 attempts
Shankland got us up, not Neilson. We'd have been lucky to make the playoffs had it not been for Shankland's goals. Neilson got very lucky. His team selections were woeful. Square pegs, round holes, never consistent, playing his favourites at the expense of players in form, not seeing his mistakes. His style of football was as turgid as they come. Had it not been for our good early season form we'd have been nowhere near the top when the season was pulled. One win in seven or eight or something. There was a few of us who spoke out against him most of the season and a lot of us who weren't sad to see him leave.
