The severe flooding in 1993 in the North Muirton housing estate only happened because the useless Council planners allowed these houses to be built on a flood plain and the equally useless Councillors on the Council planning committee voted in favour of it.

In my opinion this was a crazy decision but the farming lobby on Islay is strong and they would be up in arms if methane emissions had to be greatly reduced.
That being said I will not be cutting down eating meat to pander to the demands of Woke generation who should be asking the members of the UNIPCC why they are only estimating the annual CO2 emissions from Peatlands throughout the world. The UNIPCC who hold their COP conference every year in a different country should be explaining why they cannot hold their annual COP conference by video conferencing which would save a fortune in air travel and hotel costs.
Methane is a much more efficient greenhouse warming gas than Co2. Also has the advantage of being produced by non vegetarian food. Perfect way to blame cattle. A win win situation if you don't eat meat. Just wonder how many cows there are in the world. Any comparison with the number of humans? In fact any stats on the numbers of the individual species in our world. Be funny if there were 1bn cattle producing 500bn cc of methane, or 500cc per cow per year, and 3bn vegetarians producing 250cc each per year, equal to 750bn Cc of methane.Quote:

The River Tay is tidal level with the furthest out part of the North Inch golf course.
Every time there was heavy rain or a sudden snow melt which coincided with high tide on the River Tay the burns which flowed through the furthest away part of the North Inch golf course used to hit a wall of water in the River Tay and backed up across the golf course and the site where the North Muirton housing estate was built.
Flood defences were built after the 1993 flood which has resulted in the South Inch being the flood plan every time the Craigie Burn in Perth floods when a spell of heavy rain coincides with high tide on the River Tay.
Some of you might have been watching BBC Reporting Scotland last Friday night when details of how Storm Eowyn affected different parts of Scotland including film reports were reported.
Included was Port Ellen on Islay where Storm Eowyn pushed the sea water in Port Ellen Bay onto Frederick Crescent and flooded properties on Frederick Crescent.
This had never happened before during previous storms.
Two separate residents on Frederick Crescent posted on a Facebook site that they had contacted Argyll and Bute Council to ask them to hand out sandbags to try to protect the properties in Frederick Crescent.
Argyll and Bute Council refused to handout sandbags and one person was told by the council to purchase their sandbags.
Twenty years ago when we lived in Frederick Crescent Argyll and Bute Council employees used to deliver sandbags to every property in Frederick Crescent when a storm was forecast and collected them after the storm had passed when the Islay weather returned to normal.
What is the point of paying council tax to Argyll and Bute Council if their staff are too lazy to instruct their employees to hand out sandbags in Frederick Crescent, Port Ellen when a large storm was forecast to protect council taxpayers homes and the property of businesses who pay business rates.

Given that flooding had happened due to previous storms at least twenty years ago, and presumably even further back in history than that, I have to wonder if the people that moved there took that into account when choosing where to live.

Fair points made Deeranged, but I do think Councils should be involved in the preparation of flood defences. Maybe delivering sandbags that they store in preparation of an incident would be appropriate. Experience would show how many would be needed and an annual levy could be used to pay for the actual costs when the sandbags are needed.
