Fair enough the 4-4-2 has been great defensively against old firm
It?s starting 5-3-2 which I think hasn?t been as good. Ok to switch to that mid game if bringing on strikers but I think lack of width has hampered us and meant not playing our best players this season which includes Middleton
Agree about Luca. He's done well in difficult circumstances in the middle but he looks a much better player when playing RWB.
On your 343 thinking, not many clubs play that because it's such high risk although also high reward because it's so attacking. When we have played any formation which involves 2 wing backs and only 2 traditional midfielders between them we've usually been overrun in midfield.
A front 3 of Middleton Dalby Kai/Trap you would be hoping to deliver goals but when you don't have the ball you're going to be under pressure in that midfield.
Docherty and Sibbald you maybe have a chance but that bird has flown. Even that two would probably get swamped without a 3rd to help them.
If we're getting technical on formations my beef with any formation that starts with 3 CB'S is that you're most likely sacrificing an attacker or an attacking midfielder.
A lot of top teams in Europe play 442 or in reality a 451 which is a very fluid 433 in possession and reverts to a 451 defending.
But like all of these things it depends on the quality of the players selected and what they do regardless of formation. A change in formation isn't going to make Luca or Glenn make better decisions in front of goal.
I think Stephenson is due a rest, Campbell, doc and sjvel would offer more creativity, Stephenson reminds me of Jim McInally a bit, great engine and tenacity, technically not the greatest, which is suprise given he has been at Liverpool.
Yeah Luca was brilliant earlier in season but feels like he has lost a bit of momentum
Hopefully the 2 week break will have done the team some good
