All through my years of following football, there have been players who are only average for their clubs, but who seem to find another gear in an international setting. (I used to think that was very true of Steve Coppell, but a friend who was at Old Trafford regularly said it was more a case of him playing a different role at club-level).
Others (Steven Gerrard?) seem to function best in the team-unit they are comfortable with and committed to.
Other examples, anyone?
Strange example. I think Gerrard was exceptional for England over the years.
BB - I have a mate who has always argued with me over this too, but I think Gerrard has rarely run a game for England in the same way he has regularly done for Liverpool.Quote:

At least King is VERY pacey,but a few more good performances on the field would help. I cant help feeling he could have been used a bit more(especially when Varney is the only other option)?? :? :?
From what I am reading, and a gut instinct tells me this guy is almost as good as gone.
Whether it is down to the guys approach, attitude or personality, who can say.
There is no doubt he has some skill (as did Ruben), but these sort of players many a time are determined as not quite the team player they desire by some managers.
This more often than not emerges as being becoming good/great players under one manager and pretty much not much use to another.
My instinct tells me it is the case of the latter with JK and GB.
Time that their sold him, if he looking for the exit door.
The big question is if we sold him where is our potential game changers?
Look at our bench there is nothing that shouts out to me let's put him on he can shift the game in our favour only king and Dunn
Lose king and you are looking to Dunn who is probably on his last season.
