    Joshua King

    Obviously good enough to play for Norway, and came very close to scoring, but cant seem to cut the cloth with GB.
    Is it just me or are we starting to get a bit of a clique with the manager/players.

    Opinions please.

    Pat, cannot comment directly upon JK's performance as I didn't watch any of it.
    But in reply to your request: there does appear to be a undercurrent of thinking that GB is a little too close to some players and not so others. I am none too sure there is any basis in this as I think you could find this opinion at most clubs. It's all down really to what any manager sees day by day in any player and then matched off against what any supporter sees in the same man match by match.
    (HB initially brought in JK I seem to recall, but was he re-called in by GB? I cannot say)
    There is however some danger when promoting from within where relationships get in the way of managerial duties, this applies to any walk of life not just footie as you know.
    JL is a clear case in point, when considering suspected favouritism.
    GH could well be another, as I have commented for me he's not a captain, too immature and at times volatile.
    However, how many others of his 'old charges' has he given a chance to? Th

    Training does cause me concerns, we don't half seem to have a lot of injuries. It may be bad luck, but it seems a re-run of last season and the players out are pretty *****. Tommy Spurr has been a big lost so far IMHO.

    As for King, although maybe not the most visionary footballer, his pace and determination would be a major boost in faster attacks and keeping the ball in the opposition half. I've looked at our bench this season and there's always 2 or 3 that should probably be starting ahead of others.

    'I've looked at our bench this season and there's always 2 or 3 that should probably be starting ahead of others'.

    But then again Dan, you're not the manager

    That's the gist of it really.
    There are two fairly distinct viewpoints on this;
    1) Trust your manager, no matter what.
    2) Use your own judgement from what you observe as a spectator (who should in reality/theory know less than the manager).
    Then voice your concern with your mate/s, on a forum, at the match !
    The former is opinionising (is that a word?, it is now), the latter is barracking.

    As a paying supporter there is nothing wrong with questioning. The issue escalates when the majority determine that it is just not working.
    e.g. SK, MA, HB etc.

    I still harbour doubts over GB, but do not see any clear reason not to give him a couple more months.

    I'm not the manager, and if I was I was, I'm sure the whole Rovers fan base would be calling for my head. I wouldn't do a better job. That's the joy of being able to criticise without having any responsibility

    I have to state that GB has done an excellent job of creating stable foundations, and bringing back some dignity to the club. He should always be thanked for that. He also produced a very respectable run at the end of last season, (and may do again). But all in all, it appears right now that he's taken us as far as he can. I think this seasons Championship is also one of the hardest and strongest that it's ever been and it really is going to take someone special to grind out results week in week out. On that front, I’m not sure. I’m sure he can produce results that keep us in the top 10, but the top 6? It’s going to be very hard looking at Norwich, Wigan, Derby, Wolves, Forest, Watford, (who in fairness tend to slip away after xmas), Brighton, (definite potential for a good r

    Back on Josh King;although extremely pacey doesnt do a lot with the end product in terms of chances created for Jordan Rhodes, dangerous crosses etc.
    Playing him as the second striker(makeshift experiment)doesnt work either...
    not in my starting XI Im afraid

    I know what you're saying Bob, with the goals we've been shipping lately, players that can hold the ball in the opposition half will come in handy. King might not produce much of an end product, but at least he has enough of the ball for that to be noticed.

    I think whats equally frustrating about about players like Josh king is that 18 months down the line we re still asking the same ole questions ... can he or cant he ? (thats no criticism of you Pat for starting the thread !}

    How long does a player get before someone somewhere decides .nah ..he cant cut it ?..we seem to have a squad full of players like this ..

    True Howie, but then 2nd half against Cardiff, we were both in agreement that he should have been brought on. So is it a case that he can't cut it, or that he's not getting the chance too? He hasn't disappointed when he's come on as a sub lately and has been a right pain in the arse for the opposition. He also seems to run with the ball towards the goal rather than the corner flag these days

    Well Dan 18 months on and numerous acquisitions added to the squad (god knows how many )i tend to think GB doesnt rate him ..hi
