For decades, the Tory Press has peddled this fantasy that Britain could just dispense with the EU and trade with other countries. This is a complete falsehood and practically impossible. Just how detached from reality most of the public was brought home to me when I watched a BBC News public panel focus group. Again and again each member of the public expressed bafflement over negotiations with the EU, stating that they just thought when we voted to leave the EU, we'd have just unjoined, and that would have been that. Pretty much proving that the vast majority who voted in the EU referendum had absolute no idea of what they were actually voting for. People had voted for a completely false idea sold to them with lies i.e. the clean break from the EU.
Due to our close proximity to the EU, it's size compared to the UK, and relevance to us, the idea of just operating without any deal or agreement with the UK is just a complete fantasy. People were misled into voting on an issue they had no understanding of, when the basic premise was based on a falsehood. The whole Brexit thing as sold to the public, is based on a massive lie and an entirely false premise. The public are expecting something which is entirely impossible to deliver, because it is based on this false and impossible promise.
There you are Tricky, you didn't know what you were voting for and you were lied to. Not heard that one before.
Agree with that Swale. I’d get your tin hat ready though...can already hear the predictable howls of outrage from the Brentford and Nottingham branches of the Brexit Party.
Imagine your response to that will probably be in the Geoff Boycott category.;D
Either way...if anyone needs confirmation of the degree of contempt the current Government has for democracy in this country they can surely no longer have any doubts after last night.
Oh give over. A decent negotiator, who wasn't a closet remainer would have helped.
She did her best to stitch this up and make a pigs ear of it.
Geert knows

Geert knows but the remoaners won't have it. I still think Boris will get us out though
on the 31st!
point us to that Swale, as usual I'd love to check the provenance of your pronouncements.
Regarding the 'Tory Press', I think all printed press in UK is biased one way or the other, maybe more right-leaning pro Brexit on balance, but despite the progressive move to digital 'soundbite news', most folk still get their current affairs fix from TV and the obvious pro-remain agenda of at least one of the main channels has become laughable. So I think overall things are even-stevens on that score
I take it your referring to the BBC who gives Farage more air time than virtually any other person? Whilst it has its faults, as someone with who favours Remain, or at least an orderly exit with a deal I find the BBC has actually been overkeen to repeat Brexit falsehoods in order to appear balanced.
If you truly think that there is an even debate then let me correct that.
The Times, Sun, Express, Telegraph, Daily Mail, London Evening Standard - owners very right wing and very rich and all pushing a Tory/ Brexit agenda with the Times not being overboard on the matter (beig quite right of centre rather than extreme right wing) but the others pumping out right win pro Brexit propaganda.
Range that against the Guardian and The Mirror being either left wing, though I'd say The Guardian is more centre left.
Now apparently there are 4 million "readers" of the Sun.
Somehow I think once again you have been found to have an opinion of questionable accuracy, no doubt influenced by your own prejudices.
