I don't think you've grasped the comment you've quoted. He was replying to someone saying Butcher or Fuchs must be away if JDH is coming in. But logically that doesn't have to be the case as we need competition for places.

Can we afford more competition for that position when we have Harkes for there too but we're screaming out for width?

aye cos we really need another defensive mid plus Butcher, fuchs and Harkes then aye? so thats 4 for 2 positions when we're needing width/creativity
