O/T Blood Donor - My Blood Comes Back to Yorkshire.

I posted in the past, that blood donors were needed due to a shortage of
O Positive & O Negative blood.
O Negative blood group is 7% of the population, & used most in emergencies, while also
the need for O Positive is high because its most frequently used, with 37% of the
population having this blood group.

I gave blood on the 5th August 2024 at Montgomery Hall in Wath-on-Dearne, to which the
blood is sent to a manufacturing centre in Manchester, where it had the standard testing &
then processed into a form that can be given to a patient.

Once my blood was ready it was sent to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, where
it will help to save or improve someones life, over 1 in 3 share my blood group O Positive,
which means its always needed to help treat victims of accidents, mothers in difficult
childbirths, & cancer sufferers.

My donation on the 5th of August was my 75th time I have donated blood, I have missed
some years due to having operations, & my iron test levels been low, otherwise I would
have given more donations.

If You Can, Please Give Blood.

This prompted me to check the prohibition on people who lived in the UK 1980-96 from giving blood in the USA. Apparently this was lifted last year so I'm going to look into starting. I also need to look at the problems associated with giving blood and taking blood thinners. You can do it but it depends on what the reason is for taking thinners in the first place, apparently.

There are still restrictions here in France regarding the mad cow episode.
I’ve given a pint per week for the last year to reduce the iron in my system. Mine is thrown straight into the bin.
Regarding the blood thinners. They use an anti coagulant in the bag they fill to stop it clotting.

Everyone should give if they can.

I must say that the French don’t give biscuits and a cup of tea.

You can have a full meal! I usually have a cheese sandwich a cup of coffee and some fruit.
However I have become quite fond of the charcuterie with pickles!

Apparently it’s custard creams or naked penguins in the uk!

The difference would blow your mind 😂

ELK, an excellent contribution pal. In July I donated my 50th pint. Due to work restrictions etc in the past, it stopped me donating more and I truly wish I had. As for my last donation, it ended up at Grimsby Hospital of all places. Previous to that it was Pinderfields at Wakefields.

You feel like you've done something extremely good when you walk out after a donation. Don't get why others don't get involved but, each to their own.

CT, well done Sir.

I enquired what the limit age was for donating. It use to be 70 years of age but now they've dropped the limit providing you have no health problems, you can donate ongoing.

Quite right Brin about feeling good after giving blood, a few nurses came up to me, while I was giving blood, saying it
was a achievement to get to 75 donations.

I’ve had 4 transfusions in the last 6 months, so thank you

I suspect some of it was ex ELK because I swerve towards ‘spoons in Wath when walking past it

XD.......nice one Grist and one I think ELK will laugh at. My next donation is bonfire night and I look forward to giving many more whenever I can.
