    O/T:- TV remote controls

Can't believe that people are so lazy that they can't get up to change channels.

Used to be good exercise back in the day. I blame Trump.

Depends what garbage is on the screen.
Changing channels manually is good exercise but, very often, the urgent need to change or turn off channels necessitates using the remote !
Not to mention, falling asleep and being woken up by loud , inane , adverts !

I remember a mate getting a Ferguson videostar with a remote on a lead. We felt like kings not having to get up to pause it This was pre TV remotes I believe.

Such a fad though if you leave it next to the tv and have to get up 🤪😝
Remember Rustypie from rivals Jolly 🤔

Don't folk just shout at the telly now? Or haven't they moved on with the times?

Oh for the days of having to adjust the vertical and horizontal hold and, if that failed, thumping it on the top.

Our first remote control, a 1982 Hitachi model, was like a brick in thickness as well as the length.
It did change my viewing habits because I started seeing what was on BBC2 a lot more, whereas before it was usually left on ITV all night unless something was annoying the whole family, then it would get switched to BBC1.
Channel 4 started a few months after we got the remote, so it was a well timed upgrade, but with hindsight I wished we'd waited 18 months or so as we probably would have then got a teletext set much earlier than we ended up doing.

Had our first remote control in the late 70s. Strangely if you dropped coins near the remote, it'd change channels on its own - a remote controlled remote!
