Things Or People You Never Realised Until .....

You encountered them with your own eyes .

Seats in the old Stretford End at Old Trafford .

Ah yes the good old days , nostalgia says the Stretford End was a vacuum of working class support all stood on a Saturday afternoon together as one .

Not exactly , I went to a Rugby League Premiership Final in the 80's between Wigan and Warrington and we stood on the Stretford End , there were plastic seats right at the back of it .

Liverpool fans are friendly and jovial and the best supporters in the world .

Some of the most violent , stanley knife wielding thugs I've ever encountered , Anfield can be a very unpleasant experience even today by all accounts .

Millwall have the worst fans in London .

Not even close to Spurs , I've visited White Hart Lane 3 times and Millwall the same , Millwall is a picnic by comparison to Tottenham .

The golfer Colin Montgomery was a morgy tw@t with no personality .

I went to the Open one year at Lytham and Monty spent an hour with some kids on the practice ground doing some coaching , trick shots and had a dictionary of one liners Frankie Boyle wouldn't be able to come back on .

Wimbledon is full of snotty nosed toffs with little interest in tennis and there because it's a class thing .

Absolutely not , people from all walks of life enjoying the greatest tennis tournament of them all , friendly , helpful and a great craic if you camp out in Wimbledon Park the night before to get tickets .

Rugby League fans don't fight .

Try going to a Wakey v Cas game , real venom and hostility , I went a few years back for a Good Friday game at Belle Vue and it was kicking off big time .

Football has priced out the working class .

Aye it has , however it's nowt on Rugby Union mind , cheapest match ticket for a 6 Nations game at Twickenham and you are looking at £120 , for 80 minutes , I went as a school kid in the 70's , bus full from Darton High , tell thi nar nobody's parents had that kind of dosh back then around here so it must have been cheap .

It's a great day out at the races .

Took JLO to York one saturday in the summertime .

It starts alreight , lads suited and booted and lasses dressed up like they are going to a Royal Wedding ..... wait a while when the booze kicks in .

By the time it gets to the last race even the lasses are feighting , spuing up and yuring , coachloads of lads squaring up in the car park , it's some fecking spectacle .

Give me a night out at the dogs anytime .

Just some of my experiences based on opinions and not always necessarily facts .

Anymore for anymore experiences that are actually myths based on your findings .

Can't think of any off hand but when a gu to races a feck off wi a couple o races to gu afooar bedlam kicks in as tha sez, plus tha can get a taxi wi art any problem back to station.

On subject o alcohol a sometimes I find it strange how different sporting events have a tolerance for excessive alcohol consumption like the Rugby and the Racing, the Darts, the cricket and yet it's taboo when tha sat in a football ground.

I think you may have been safer serving in the army than going to all those venues.

The myth- That St James's Park, Newcastle is a noisy hotbed of football full of the most passionate fans in the country.

Went to Newcastle-v-Everton cos I was in the area and expected a stadium experience full of warm-hearted, friendly Geordies and chirpy, witty Scousers. Caught up in feyting artside the Strawberry Pub prior to game and the crowd were deathly quiet and full of moaning buggers-East Stand Upper at Oakwell had nothing on this.

Two times in my life when I have been genuinely frightened coming out of a football ground were both at White Hart Lane .

First time I went was in 1981 when we played Enfield at Spurs ground and in 1998 when were in the PL and drew them in the 4th round of the FA cup when I was much older .

The walk back to the coaches in 1981 was like nowt I'd ever seen before , hundreds of em surrounding us .

The walk back to Seven Sisters tube after the 98 game was bloody scary , they were clearly looking for us , something must have kicked off before the game because they were on a reight mission .

It didn't bloody end there either , we thought we'd cracked it when we got on the tube , until it stopped at the next station Finsbury Park and there were about 200 of their mob stood on the platform all looking through the windows .

Close them fecking doors mi thinks .

Just based on my own experience because I've not had any drama at Millwall at their ground at all .

Wembley weren't too pleasant but I can't say I was actually nerved too much by them .

More marth than owt and it's not like we were absolute angels ourselves that day which I think made em realise they'd picked on the wrong club to be trying to bully .

I bet it was great to see the great fast bowlers in action at Headingley in the 70's playing against England .

Well I watched Lillee , Thompson , Holding , Roberts and Marshall run up and a batsman if he was lucky make some kind of action that suggested he'd hit the ball but that's about it .

Truth is the naked eye ain't good enough to pick those deliveries up , tha struggled to see Derek Underwood's left arm spin pitch never mind whispering death Michael Holding .

I didn't know any of this of course when I went to my first test match in 1975 as a kid to see the terrible twins that were Lillee and Thompson bowl .

    Most underwhelming .

A dunt mind it (dogs)missen mate. Steady neet art when av bin, enjoyable. When a wo younger our regular haunt wo Owlerton dogs then on to napoleon's casino forra proper flutter, then ooam skint 9 times arta 10

I do prefer going to the races though. A dint go till a were in mi mid 30s and absolutely loved it. Donny races on a hot Friday evening in middle o summer is summat I always look forrard to. Smart casual dress, relaxed, am not into gerrin suited and booted and all that galse middle class shyte.

I got a real tingle down my spine as I first entered through the turnstiles and saw all the activity and hustle n bustle in and around the place. A bit of an eye opener to be honest. It's like an awayday wi art inconvenience o guin tut match Tha can eva a craic all day and ev a smoke when tha wants!

Av always liked a flutter as tha probably gathers but nivver bothered betting on nags as a youth. A still dunt really bet on em nar but going to the races I just love the spectacle, being up close to the action as well as a punt.

The one I enjoyed most was a stag doo at Nottingham races when a wo best man fo mi mate. We decided just 4 of us (who gu back years) would go because he dint want his work mates and acquaintances muscling in and being a liability, fair enough wi me nar we're all middle aged a thought to missen. Cracking day art, darn on train, few beers around the pubs near the station then a five minute taxi ride onto the racecourse. An intimate little venue weer tha weren't pushing and shoving all day forra beer or bet or seeing folk embarrassing the sens cos thev ed a sniff ot barmans apron. Back into Nottingham forra few mooar ales then ooam. My kind of day art.
