I thought I’d post on this subject because I know it’s something that men in general, are not very good at addressing, myself included.
I speak from experience, I’ve had a problem for around 15 years that I’ve not dealt with properly, well not until a couple of days ago.
Nearly 20 years ago when I was around 40 I started having terrible pains in my nuts, I thought I had testicular cancer and a series of visits to various doctors and A&E didn’t solve anything.
I then got very lucky by being referred to a doctor at the old Dudley Guest Hospital, he diagnosed a stress related issue that was affecting my prostate, it took him two minutes to diagnose me and to issue me a prescription for a drug I’ve taken for almost two decades that immediately solved the problem.
15 years ago I started getting red patches on my “old fella”.......uncomfortably itchy and blood red angry at times including this week.
Various trips to various GP’s and various creams issued, nothing worked for long and the problem was “creeping” up the old lad and getting visibly worse.
I’d suspected for a few years it was a slow growing cancer so I buried my head in the sand, I couldn’t face the diagnosis or the potential treatment that might be needed.
On Thursday of last week it looked so bad I found myself choking back the tears, I felt so low and so frightened by my predicament.
I searched on Google and found the guy who helped me 20 years ago, he specialises in s e x u a l health, especially with men.
He fitted me in to his out of hours clinic in Stourbridge and the same as 20 years ago, he inspected me for about one minute before confirming I was suffering from Zoon’s Balinitis, this is an auto immune condition whereby the body is basically fighting against itself.
I have to wash “down under” a couple of times a day with salt water and use Betnovate ointment for a couple of weeks and he says this’ll sort me out.
I started the treatment yesterday evening and after 24 hours the results are already remarkable, the nasty red patches are fading by the minute.
The sense of relief is palpable, I’ve carried this worry for so long that I can’t remember a time when life was “normal” in that department, today has felt absolutely fantastic to be alive.
I’m not known for being upbeat as most of you will know, this problem and the one I was having with my stomach in January were the reasons I thought my days were numbered, I feel like I’ve dodged two bullets to be honest with you all.
I posted on FB about this and one of my old football mates immediately asked for my Dr’s number as he’s been hiding away from a problem with going for a pee so if I’ve encouraged just one bloke to get himself checked out then it’s a job well done.
Us blokes are not good when it comes to issues below the waist, front or back!
I’ve been a fool by hiding and suffered in silent misery with a problem that was easily cured, please lads, take advice from a t w a t and don’t hesitate if you’re concerned.
In the end I had a ten minute chat with the doc with my Dick in full view, the embarrassment soon passes.
Happy to pass on my docs details at any time to anyone who has any concerns.
Don’t be a long term idiot like I have been.
Pleased to hear you are now OK Mick.
Good to hear you are OK Mick. What you say is absolutely right. I had prostate cancer a couple of years ago. I knew something was up but stupidly just tried to put it out of my mind. Then I saw a holiday picture of myself and I was horrified by the weight loss. I stopped being silly and luckily it was caught just in time as it was beginning to spread. So as Mick says if you think something is not quite right don't hesitate for a single moment.
Sound advice, us blokes are terrible when it comes to things like this!
Great post mick to many of us bury our heads in the sand when it comes to these problems we dont even talk to our wives
Glad to hear you’re feeling better Mick And that little (or not so little) Mick is in a better place as well
I am hearing so many autoimmune issues recently affecting people of all ages and in so many ways, and from personal experience know quite how life changing they can be
I wonder if it’s anything to do with the current pandemic or our diet, food etc
The main issue seems to be that it’s impossible to figure out the triggers to the immune system going nuts and attacking the body
Thanks for the messages in reply lads and to you Q I hope that your treatment is continuing to work well?
My own predicament was ridiculous and totally avoidable, when it comes to a lump or bump or ailment of any other kind I jump on it straight away, purely because this was a c o c k job I buried my head......what a ridiculous and childish attitude to something that has had such an impact on my life for 15 years.
Hope you’re daughter’s condition is improving BS?
You’re so right about these auto immune illnesses these days, I do wonder if mine was initiated in some way due to my “exploits” in the late 70’s and 80’s, I took absolutely no precautions and it’s a miracle I never ended up with a “dose” or worse.
I had Thrush more times than The Man From Uncle ( you’ll need to be well over 50 to get that 😏 ) and I’m sure these type of nether region infections don’t do you any good at all and maybe things linger.
Like I said though, the guy I put my trust in twice ( Dr Sood ) is a genius when it comes to “Percy” and the prostate so if anyone ever needs help or advice I’m happy to pass on details.
Thanks Mick, I am over it but will feel the repercussions of the treatment for some time (a small price to pay). I am also having hormone therapy (umm nice).
This time last year I found a lump downstairs. I was referred in no time. When I turned up it was two women, one quite young. I wasn't embarrassed about what was to come. They dimmed the lights and I went went behind a screen with one of them. She asked me to drop my trousers and get on the bed and the following conversation ensued as she began to fondle my balls.
Nurse: Would you hold your peni5 there for me?
Me: Ohh Matron!
She said it seemed there was nothing to worry about but was referring it to the bo££ock consultant anyway. Got the all clear in no time. As I came out adjusting my belt I said to the young one 'Well that was interesting' and I watched her reaction change a little 'It's not the sort of thing that happens to me every day'. I detected a giggle.
It was fine and although I may sound like a stuck record, if there is the slightest worry just do not hesitate.
Best wishes BS.
Glad you are ok Mick 👍
Good news that you are ok Mick
