I thought I’d post on this subject because I know it’s something that men in general, are not very good at addressing, myself included.
I speak from experience, I’ve had a problem for around 15 years that I’ve not dealt with properly, well not until a couple of days ago.
Nearly 20 years ago when I was around 40 I started having terrible pains in my nuts, I thought I had testicular cancer and a series of visits to various doctors and A&E didn’t solve anything.
I then got very lucky by being referred to a doctor at the old Dudley Guest Hospital, he diagnosed a stress related issue that was affecting my prostate, it took him two minutes to diagnose me and to issue me a prescription for a drug I’ve taken for almost two decades that immediately solved the problem.
15 years ago I started getting red patches on my “old fella”.......uncomfortably itchy and blood red angry at times including this week.
Various trips to various GP’s and various creams issued, nothing worked for long and the problem was “creeping” up the old lad and getting visibly worse.
I’d suspected for a few years it was a slow growing cancer so I buried my head in the sand, I couldn’t face the diagnosis or the potential treatment that might be needed.
On Thursday of last week it looked so bad I found myself choking back the tears, I felt so low and so frightened by my predicament.
I searched on Google and found the guy who helped me 20 years ago, he specialises in s e x u a l health, especially with men.
He fitted me in to his out of hours clinic in Stourbridge and the same as 20 years ago, he inspected me for about one minute before confirming I was suffering from Zoon’s Balinitis, this is an auto immune condition whereby the body is basically fighting against itself.
I have to wash “down under” a couple of times a day with salt water and use Betnovate ointment for a couple of weeks and he says this’ll sort me out.
I started the treatment yesterday evening and after 24 hours the results are already remarkable, the nasty red patches are fading by the minute.
The sense of relief is palpable, I’ve carried this worry for so long that I can’t remember a time when life was “normal” in that department, today has felt absolutely fantastic to be alive.
I’m not known for being upbeat as most of you will know, this problem and the one I was having with my stomach in January were the reasons I thought my days were numbered, I feel like I’ve dodged two bullets to be honest with you all.
I posted on FB about this and one of my old football mates immediately asked for my Dr’s number as he’s been hiding away from a problem with going for a pee so if I’ve encouraged just one bloke to get himself checked out then it’s a job well done.
Us blokes are not good when it comes to issues below the waist, front or back!
I’ve been a fool by hiding and suffered in silent misery with a problem that was easily cured, please lads, take advice from a t w a t and don’t hesitate if you’re concerned.
In the end I had a ten minute chat with the doc with my Dick in full view, the embarrassment soon passes.
Happy to pass on my docs details at any time to anyone who has any concerns.
Don’t be a long term idiot like I have been.
