    Saka

    Just watching Brentford v Arsenal.

Saka just come on as Sub. Applauded by what must be about 95% of Brentford fans, then booed every time he gets the ball by the other 5%.

If ever there was a microcosm of racism in football, it was right there. There's always a few idiots and that will never change.

Doesn't necessarily mean it's racist in nature. Beckham got booed a lot after 1998 as he was blamed for England losing against Argentina. Others also getting stick from the terraces for being deemed responsible, let's not jump to conclusions

Very special watching the scenes at the end of the game, especially the oldish guy with tears rolling down his face. He was a Brentford fan, by the way, though Arsenal fans have plenty to cry about on that showing.

Absolutely. Saka undoubtedly got a warm and pretty universal welcome, but once he's on the pitch and the game has re-started, normal fan banter rules resume, and booing the opposition's best players and biggest threats is nothing new.

True. Yep, not thought of it like that. Fair point.

We're supposed to be following the Brentford model of talent discovery, so hopefully it will be us one day!

Amazing to think that just 12 years ago, we drew 1-1 with Brentford at crappy Griffin Park in League 2 (though the pubs on each corner were great). What a success story they are - and good luck to them.

Is it a coincidence that we play exactly the same formation as Brentford?

This is exactly the issue I was banging on about the other day. This focus on the negative and the assumptions it draws which is manifested by media coverage. On a lighter note back in the day Notts and Brentford played each other frequently and were similar size clubs with similar attendances and probably a similar support base. I used to go to a few games at the old Griffin park when I lived near Heathrow. Their pathway forward and ours could not be more startling but in recent years it appears that we have started to copy them ( I don't mean that in a bad way) with our approach to recruitment. They are a shining light of what can be achieved and I am a bit of a green eyed monster. Well done to Brentford!
