I must admit I don't follow the UK press so don't know if it's being mentioned there but having just watched Newcastle go to Spurs and win the pundits on NBC here in the US are talking in the terms of there now being a 'Big 7' in the Premiership.
With the big money takeover, the appointment of Eddie Howe as manager, the players they have recruited and their fanatical and huge fanbase are Newcastle now in a position to upset the proverbial applecart? I'm no fan of using large sums of foreign (dodgy?) money to buy success but to quote someone (can't quite remember who?) "I will love it, love it" if they break the 'Big 6' monopoly.

I'd be very very wary of Newcastle United if I was the so called big 6 .
Newcastle United have the history , tradition and the fanatical support to be top of the pile , what they haven't had before is money , proper money .
Talk of a new stadium going up with a capacity of 75k , they'll fill it too .
The last time I was up there the attendance was 51k for a championship game in February against obviously ourselves .
You've got to respect and admire that kind of support through the turnstiles given the complete and utter lack of any meaningful success since probably the 1950's .
Ha ha clicked wrong one. It was in sun today saying they had spent more than some European Leagues put together.
I recall Gary Lineker interviewing Eddie Howe after he'd taken over as Newcastle Manager and was, with a smug grin on his face, almost enjoying trying to belittle Howe.
The conversation went like this:
GL: "Everyone is talking about January but you've got some massive games in December haven't you?"
EH: "Yeah the fixtures list as a group doesn't look kind. January, for me, is going to be important for us but it pales into insignificance when talking about your current squad.
"The players we have here we really like. We need to maximise those players first."
GL: "Can you keep them up, Eddie?"
EH: "Yeah, for sure we can. I've always believed that it's possible.
"We've obviously come from a difficult position and I'm sure there's a long road ahead, with twists and turns, ups and downs, but I believe in the group we have."
Lineker signed off the programme with, ''We'll have to wait and see'' ......smug two hat.
I still recall Lineker's face looking surprised at Howe's reply but who's smiling now? Not only did Howe keep them up that season but, look where Newcastle are tonight. Yes money talks but many a Manager has blown Millions of pounds on transfers and flopped where as Howe clearly hasn't.
Well done Eddie Howe and Newcastle. Howe to be the next England Manager?
As for the big 7 as Cam puts it, Man City, Man Utd, A.rsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs are the big clubs but I bet their board members are now paying attention after that result tonight.
I think they are way ahead of where they thought they'd be this season Brin .
No matter how wealthy they are it just doesn't happen overnight , it took City five seasons to win the PL from when the money men arrived .
Where Newcastle have caught a wave is hiring the right manager at the very start of the project .
