Amortisation.
Essentially means a club can sign 2 x players for 100m each (fee and wages) on 5 year contracts and can spread it to 40m each season. If they sell a home-grown player it's classed as pure profit so they'd only need to sell one player from the youth academy for ?40 million to break even on those transfers.
But it leads to having to panic sell youth assets like Newcastle with Anderson. Hence the bogus transfers between Everton, Villa and Newcastle last summer.

Just another example of "creative accounting" enabling the greedy league clubs to bend the rules and take a leak on everyone else ?

More concerning is that it shows the lack of nouse the rule makers have. It does't take a rocket surgeon to work out how to use the rules to their advantage and there is probably nothing to stop us from offering ?1m over 10 years for a player.
The worst of it is that it will rule us out of getting Haaland on a free in the next few years
