    2025/26 club progress

Maybe a couple of weeks early for this thread but I’ve been thinking about it and the division we find ourselves in doesn’t really change my opinions. What progress would you want to see over the summer?

Firstly. The bro’s seem happy with the financial sustainability side of things, so more of the same I guess.

Next. The head coach and coaching set up. I won’t say I want to see a change of manager. I very much doubt it will happen anyway. I’d like to see a proper coaching team in place for pre season though. Whether Maynard is still the top man or not, let’s give the head coach the help they need next year.

Formation/Set up. Not too many players out of contract this summer and I’m becoming less and less of a fan of the 3 at the back. I actually think the players we have suit a back 4 (4231, 442 it’s not so dissimilar really). Macari/Gordon on the right. Bedeau/Tsaroulla on the left. Put less last man defensive responsibility in players like Jarvis and Jones.

Lastly, recruitment. I believe it would be a huge mistake to let David McGoldrick leave. We aren’t going to find a better no10 willing to play for us. Based on building towards a 4231, I’d like see a keeper, left sided defender, midfielder to replace Abbott (good luck to the recruitment team in that one) and a striker worthy of pushing Jatta for that starting spot as priority targets. In reality there will likely be way more ins and outs.

All just my opinion of course. Under the weather and unlikely to make it tonight but come on Notts, I’ll be cheering on from the sofa!

    Nate

I noticed quite a handy looking back four working together yesterday...

Everyone is assuming George Abbot is leaving. Have I missed something? Surely, our first signing should be George. I've never seen such a happy interview.
I would also re-sign McGoldrick And another Crowley type player to share to the load.
After that, I would assess the fitness of Robertson, can Notts get 35-40 games out of him? If not, sign another ball-winner.
Also, an oven ready striker, who perhaps plays 20 matches and gets 7 or 8 goals. McCain is pretty good.
So I think a number 9, 10 and 4 should be the target areas. I honestly believe injuries affected this season more than usual.

Even if we were to go up, I’m sure Spurs will be looking at the Championship as the next destination for George.

Yeah, he's already done the 'men's football' bit and passed the test. Even if he can't be a regular in a side like Ipswich, Millwall or Watford I'm sure they'd prefer him to fight for a shirt there - too much lower league football and he might turn into one of its players

Playing wise, I think central midfield is the key area of focus. Zero chance Abbott will be here next season and depending on what league we are in will determine the amount of business.

Palmer and Hinchy, in whichever league, will be good options. I think Robertson has got a lot about him, but he needs to get and stay fit.

A quality 10 should also be high on the agenda. I would be more than happy to keep Whitaker too.

I think we will see a lot from Lucas Ness next season too. I can see him being a big hit.

When you say a keeper you do mean a back up to Bass not a replacement don't don't you?
