Cowley brothers close to Huddersfield deal

Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town are close to agreeing a deal for Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley to become their new manager.

It is understood that compensation has been agreed for the 40-year-old.

He will succeed Jan Siewert, who was sacked on 16 August after three winless league games and a Carabao Cup first-round defeat by Cowley's Lincoln.

Cowley guided the Imps to promotions from the National League and League Two in his three full seasons in charge.

He led Lincoln to an FA Cup quarter-final while they were a non-league club, with victories over Championship sides Ipswich and Brighton and Premier League Burnley en route to the last eight.

Cowley, who will again be assisted by his brother Nicky, also led the club to success in the Checkatrade Trophy in 2018, beating Shrewsbury in the club's first ever appearance in a Wembley final.

Huddersfield were relegated from the Premier League last season with just 16 points and are 23rd in the Championship after failing to win any of their first six matches.

If a deal is agreed, Cowley's first game in charge will be Sunday's Yorkshire derby at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

WOW - thanks for the news flash Oldstripy!!

I was wondering when the Cowleys would leave Lincoln.

Their success story has been nothing short of miraculous. Managers of part-time club Braintree Town, they completely turned dismal Lincoln's fortunes around.

I am absolutely sure that without them they would still be mired in the National League, struggling to get 3,00 gates, instead of filling the stadium every home game. Whoever Lincoln appoint it's going to be a really tough act to follow...

Just shows the difference a decent manager with a plan and a style of play can make.

    Dead right their Gumpy.

However for every Danny Cowley there are plenty of hopeless non-league managers, (cue Neil Ardley ha-ha-ha). You only have to ask ask Lincoln fans, they employed a fair few no-hopers before they guessed right with Cowley...

It will be interesting to see how the Cowley brand of football works in the Championship at a club that expects to be challenging for the Premier League again soon. They've had an exceptional career so far, but at some point they will have a bad time, because 99% of managers do.

Look at Paul Hurst: outstanding success at Boston, Grimsby and Shrewsbury, but he struggled at Ipswich where the club's size and expectations weren't matched by its budget in recent times, and now he's struggling at Scunny. Paul Hurst hasn't suddenly become a bad manager, it's just that confidence and momentum has been against him at his last two clubs. The margins between success and failure are quite narrow.

Surprised it's taken this long and two promotions before somebody came in for them. They probably have hit the ceiling with Lincoln though.

The players here will laugh their bollox off at him.An ex PE teacher trying to save us from relegation. No thanks, not the right time.Last summer yeah.

Would surely jump at the chance to come to Notts from a Mickey Mouse outfit like Lincoln.

We need a manager that the players, and supporters, respect because of ability, reputation or previous history. Now is most definitely not the time for social friggin experiments.

Jacob as usual got is spot on by the way with " Would definitely be an appointment I could get behind. "

These are probably the same posters who want Ardley out!

I was being sarky with the Mickey Mouse comment. They were top of the NL at the time and we were at or near the bottom. I live in Lincoln and I knew Cowley would have been a great appointment. There was no chance of him coming to Notts though.

When you’re in non league appointing a bloke with non league experience and success seems like a bit of a no brainer.

I know I was just being light hearted humour guy. If only we all had a crystal ball huh. Good luck to Cowley, stellar job there be interesting to see how quickly they fall back to their natural position of bottom half league 2.
