Since the European Championship adopted its present format in 1980 only one nation has successfully won its own tournament and that was France in 1984 .
I take the point England hasn't hosted the tournament but we are playing the final at Wembley and played all but one game there so in affect it's been a massive advantage .

1992 Sweden , Denmark .
1996 England , Germany .
2000 Netherlands & Belgium , France .
2004 Portugal , Greece
2008 Austria & Switzerland , Spain

Hosts Portugal in 2004 and France in 2016 both made the final but lost to Greece and Portugal respectfully .
