And almost as good as leipzig as City beat them 3-1 on their own turf. Haaland is going through a dry spell too.
My mate Tommy the Toon rang me about 11 pm last night, he sounded like he was having a drink or two but in all of his 60 odd years supporting Newcastle he had never witnessed anything like the atmosphere at St James' Park last night.
That's a BIG win I must say. Little old Burnley will beat them when they come to the Turf now we are hitting our stride.
I told that to Tommy, he is probably still splitting his side.![]()
I watched the game and I couldn't make my mind up, were Newcastle brilliant, well no, not really, or were PSG not up for it ? Hard to believe they weren't, but they didn't seem anything special to me.
Got a feed for the game from CBS Sports and one of the comms was a Geordie called Ray Hudson. Never heard of him before but what a breath of fresh air, he was hilarious. Apparently he played for Newcastle in the 70s, went to the States where he played and coached then into media work over there. I suppose too much of him might get on your tits but he was cracking me up last night, after a series of saves he described the PSG keeper as like a kangaroo on a trampoline, one defender rose for a header like a hungry hawk looking for it's dinner, a pass was made with archimedean precision, someone was playing like a matador in a pink tutu, god knows what he meant by that, a pass was as smooth as the back of a spoon, and all delivered in a broad geordie accent, in complete contrast to the American drawl of his co-commentator.
Not sure just how much of him I could take, but after Sky's tedious succession of 'should have done betters', 'not enough on its' or 'too much on its', it was a delight.
Not that I recall, but if he did I might have missed it, too busy laughing, quite honestly mon ami, I've never heard anything like it. If I had anything to do with Sky or TNT I'd be offering him a contract, but then, they probably can't compete on wages with CBS.
Ray played for Newcastle when he was 17. Came over here and played and coached before becoming a commentator of La Liga gmes. He and a former Manure keeper Baily? a South African were on a football talk show for many which Iused to watch regularly
Whilst on that front how does Owen Hargreaves on TNT grab ya?
