What do you make of the lad who ordered the banner?
. He's another idiot. Not for ordering the banner but for flying it over the football stadium and knowing what a fuss it would cause.if he'd have flown it anywhere else it would not have had the media attention it got.

When it comes to law breaking how do Burnley and Premier League get around this

From a player’s perspective, FIFA’s explicit rules on political statements in those matches and competitions falling under FIFA’s direct and indirect5 jurisdiction focus in particular on the display of messages on clothing. The FIFA Laws of the Game6 list, at Law 4, the basic compulsory equipment to be used by each player (comprising playing jersey, shorts, stockings, shinguards and footwear), which in turn is furthered by a decision of the International FA Board clarifying Law 4, which states that:

“the basic compulsory equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images… The team of a player whose basic equipment has political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images will be sanctioned by the competition organiser or by FIFA.”

Whos going to be sacked over that ?

If you tell your boss to f**k off you may not be committing a crime, but you might well get the sack. The issue here is whether his actions amount to gross misconduct.

From my perspective, an employee represents the company and if you take part in an external activity that brings your company into disrepute by association with you, I expect he can be sacked.

Was he representing his company though or was it out of hours in his own time.
I genuinely don't know as I haven't read the detail.
An employee can't be held responsible by their employer for everything they do in their private lives

Just wait and see what happens. They will have taken best legal advice before dismissing him. It's too high profile not too.

I bet his contract of employment says different. Within reason. In the last 10 years I could easily have dismissed approx. 5 people due to their conduct outside of working hours.

It has happened before in English domestic football. Players wear a Poppy on Armistice Day. Dont remember anyone getting sacked.

    Well that's exactly right.
It depends upon what his specific contract of employment says and also taking into account general employment law. Unless we know what he's signed up to then it's guesswork
Some contracts will a lot more stringent in this aspect particularly for those people in the public eye such as pro footballers. Although if you,re a certain RB for Man City then it doesn't really matter what you do.
I presume his Employer has checked the terms of his employment and not just made a knee jerk reaction in an attempt to do the right thing in their eyes
