Apparently a day out at the seaside these days consists of drunkenness , violence , stabbings , parking where you want and leaving your rubbish to be cleared up by someone else who you then throw abuse at for simply doing their job in extremely testing times .

"A Cambridge University professor has received hundreds of abusive messages, including death threats, after tweets she made sparked an online backlash.

On Tuesday (June 23), Prof Priyamvada Gopal, who teaches English at Churchill College, tweeted: "I'll say it again. White lives don't matter. As white lives." She then added: "Abolish whiteness."

'I say the same thing about my own community'

Speaking to CambridgeshireLive, the professor from India explained her tweets: "I was saying whiteness isn't the reason lives should matter. Lives do matter, but not because they are white. I say the same thing about my own community.

"When I talk about abolishing whiteness, I talk about political practices and ideologies. Systems of oppression, whether white or brown, should be abolished.

"It's about abolishing a race hierarchy where whites are at the top."

What I find really refreshing here is, in the face of the storm, shes not gone down the soppy route of an apology. Shes stuck by her comment and supported it with context.
