It’s a shame though as I always felt he had something to offer. In our relegation season, he was always one of the stand out players in the reserves, not that that was difficult, but was never given a chance.
    I wish him well.
What are you talking about? This rhetoric is complete b*llocks and needs to stop imo, Ardley has always been one for throwing in youngsters - Ben Barclay, Ryan Schofield, Sam Stubbs, Sam Graham, Joel Bagan, Adam Long, Virgil Gomis, Pierce Bird, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Dion Kelly Evans, Regan Booty, Sam Osborne, Kyle Wootton and Cal Roberts are all 23 or under and have all played under Neal Ardley. You can argue that a lot of those aren't "our youngsters" but that's not Neal's fault, if he thinks they're good enough he will bring them in and play them, end of.

    ---

I'm pleased Osborne has made the brave (and correct imo) decision to broaden his horizons, he had no divine right to start ahead of probably the best winger in the division in Cal Roberts and Enzio can also play on the right wing so all this "he should have played more is nonsense", he did need to be playing regular football and unfortunately for him he's too far down the pecking order to get that here.

I do think he was massively over rated because he was local, ala Scott Loach, Terry Hawkridge, Haydn Hollis and Pierce Bird who all seemed to be able to do no wrong and had glowing reviews when they joined their new clubs because of their local ties. If Osbourne had been from Holland and managed 2 goals in 13 appearances, a lot of them offering very little else then god help him, nobody would've batted an eyelid about him leaving and I'd go as far as to say that people might have even been annoyed he was even offered a deal, his performances were really nothing special.

The bottom line is Ardley offered him a contract, he wanted first team football and rightfully wasn't going to be guaranteed that here so moving on was the best option for him. I wish him all the best.

Having said that there was no way he was ever going to be anything but a squad player at Notts. He just doesn't come close to Roberts or Enzio. Now we have signed Rodriguez and Sloth, he would have been even further down the pecking order.

I think a fair few of our fans haven't bought into the 'Moneyball' concept of Football Radar. They still believe the academy is the way forward. Not a chance when we are competing with Forest, Derby and Leicester on our door step. IMO there is no point wasting the little money we have on develpoing youngsters, only for the few that are good enough, to be snapped up by the vultures. Let's use the in-house recruitment skills we have, to find saleable talent elsewhere...
Hard to disagree, in fact i said something very similar last week. Our academy just isn't good enough atm, to produce players for our 1st team. As you said the very few that are, get snapped up very quickly by the big clubs higher up. The main problem with that also is the big clubs hold the power, most of them give a small upfront fee, with the rest in sell on clauses or 1st team appearance fee's ect. The best thing for us is to scrap the academy, and try to follow the Brentford/Peterborough model of finding gems to sell on.

Lets not just make things up, can you name your examples?

Both times he had a decent run in the team he was dropped after draws against Dover, the first time after a 4 game run early in the season he put in a woeful performance at their ground with his highlight being missing the chance to score from close range. The second time was after a run of 5 games we drew 0-0 with them at Meadow Lane and coincided with the arrival of Cal Roberts

LB comment understand. I would be critical more so of Turner, he should have been talking to Bagan. I would also be critical of Ardley at this point, I would have taken Turned off at half time.

I agree. He was offered a contract and made a decision to turn it down which was his prerogative. I hope he made the right decision for himself and is successful in the future. In the meantime the club moves on.

You want examples here they are Maidenhead and Aveley dropped next game.

Roberts was not here when we played Maidenhead or the game after so you cant shoehorn that into yiur arguement.

He was being overlooked by Shields earlier in the season who lets face it was sh*te.

Personally Osbourne has made the right decision to get game time bit like a lot of young talent are now going to Germany in the highest leagues.

We might regret it in the long term but lets hope these new shiny players from abroad work out better than the last lot.

Call me old fashioned but if you come in and perform well would you not expect to keep your place.
That is what happened with Turner in the play offs, played well in the semis and kept his place for the final.
That turned out well didn't it?
