Really, comparing taking a free kick with flying a plane.

Right, I’m staying off here. I prefer to remain positive. Hope everyone has good day and we get 3 points.

That was before we imported all them foreigners, showing us how to dive and feign agony. Don Revie caught on quick and Leeds became unbeatable. It took years for the FA to catch on what was happening to the English game but they never tried to halt the cheating. It's now common among players foreign or home-made

The Referees Association were astonishingly slow to even acknowledge that their members were being duped into giving penalties to every false trip in the penalty area. Slow wasn't the word, incompetence was, and it goes on still.

We no longer see close-ups of a player, foreign or home grown, lying on the ground, grinning when he sees he's fooled yet another referee into giving a free-kick, now he knows the cameras will pick it up they've stopped the grinning, but the refs are still fooled and the player still applauded by his manager.

Alan Shearer, on MOTD, stated that if a player feels a touch in the penalty area (!) he's entitled, yes, ENTITLED to go down and should be awarded a penalty - where does THAT come into fair play?

Whereas back in the day you could take someone out at the knee with no real attempt at going for the ball and you'd get a quick telling off or if the referee had balls a yellow card at worse.

That hard man potentially career ending challenge (can't really call it a tackle) resulted in the player being labelled as a hard man and celebrated.

Untrained physio runs onto the pitch to treat the injured player with a magic sponge and some cold water.

    Great times

The point is with any industry / sport / life you have to amass experience and practice to get to the very top. Unfortunately we now live in a society where people want it now without putting any effort into getting where they want to get / or what they want to have. To get to the very top in any sport/ industry means going beyond 9 - 5 (or 10 - 12 if you’re a footballer)

But I think the point you are missing is that the performances are on a knife edge and results could go either way, and hopefully like you say we will get 3 points today (personally I think we have a better chance with only playing one from Roberts or Rodrgues from the start)

    I definitely going after this!

How have we gone from Burchnall making a suggestion to Ruben, to people wanting success without putting the time and effort in.

The irony of the above is, Notts, Owners, Burchnall etc are putting in the hard yards to achieve sustainable success and not looking for a quick fix.

He's got a point, the current setup is going against the grain of modern society.

Patience and a plan. The question is does the fanbase as a whole have the patience, and does it trust in the longer term plan?

You are right in your last paragraph about sustainable success, as someone working behind the scenes in professional sport it takes time to implement and change things, it’s almost like trying to do a 180 degrees turn with an oil tanker it’s not instant and success usually takes time. At different levels of sport there are different approaches to get success based on your opponents skills and abilities and you have to adjust your plan to suit the situation. My point is that the players brought in on watching (not hearsay or opinions from others who haven’t seen them) is that I’m not convinced they have the skill sets or abilities to perform in a set system that is used further up the football pyramid with players of more ability, hence my pulling up IB on his it’s only 11 v 11 comment.

Man, that might be a good idea.
It moved on to a wider discussion on excellence in sports and wider than that..

It doesn't all have to be so specific, and you don't have to jump to IB's defence and defend his honour each time a fellow Notts fan raises a point or question
The only agendas on here are the club's success.

Why? Because I disagree with your comments?

In your mind it may have moved on, the main discussion stemmed from Burchnall giving some advice to Ruben to then comments re Notts recruitment not being good enough, issues with the owners. So, from the above what is not related to Notts? These are the points I was responding too.

In terms of jumping to IB’s defence. I’m actually defending Notts approach of which IB is integral part.

Do you think that Notts recruitment would adjust, in terms of recruitment targets, to reflect the level they’re playing at? Some of the players are more than capable of operating at the level above, some probably aren’t and their journey with Notts may stop when/if Notts get promoted.
