I agree. If it’s true that Maddison wants to go to Spurs ahead of us when we have CL football and they aren’t in Europe at all then I categorically don’t want us to try and sign him.

The decision, I feel will rest on the player himself. If he wants Spurs for a few grand a week more I'd question his ambition and we dodge a bullet. We are in the up, maybe offer a bonus to the player himself on personal terms based in table position. Spurs might offer a crazy fee but if the player doesn't want to go it won't happen.

We should see signing after the international games.
The window is open, the season is over all the international games are played.
Execs have been on their 2 weeks holidays and are now back in the office.
We'll start to see movement in the market across the football world from now.
Inshallah the board get our deals done swiftly and smoothly, like the Isak deal.
Howay the Board!
I think those running the show at Leicester will be getting zero sleep these nights - desperate to maximise Maddison’s price but knowing that if we or Spurs walk away, the one year left on his contract and Chimpo football will weigh heavy.
The board aren't hanging around this window. They want to get business done. If Leicester try and get a bidding war to drag on for weeks we'll walk away and bring in an alternative.
It's clear all parties at the club want the business done and dusted before the first day of pre-season training.
We're not gonna wait for Leicester. We've put our offer in, the player has agreed to terms unofficially. The Board want to get all the business done before pre-season kicks off.
This won't be a summer long Ashley fraud squad style saga of 'just couldn't get it over the line' nonsense, those days are gone.
The board have the green light from Riyadh to get the top quality young talent in required to sustain our top 4 position and make a fist of it in the UCL.
Szoboszlai talks are ongoing, Ashworth is in Europe, the medical for Toonali will happen today / tomorrow in Romanian where the player is on international duty with the Italian U21s.
Ashworth will turn his attention to closing the Szoboszlai deal once we've got the ink dry on the Tonali contract.
I don't really care about Maddison at this point. Bringing in Tonali is a massive statement of intent. Taking a top top famous old European club's prize asset and future captain from them is a big middle finger to the European establishment.
We follow that up with Szoboszlai, who, is only 22 years old with a bunch of UCL experience already we have an excellent cocktail of midfield ingredients.
Workhorse Longstaff (25), Box-to-box technician & energy Willock (23), midfield monster Joelinton (26) & silky class of Bruno (25) & the defensive tactical knowledge and game reading of Tonali (23) combined with his technical excellence and still vast amounts of development.
All 5 of those guys are aged 23-26 - They are gonna all peak together in the next 3-4 yrs. Szoboszlai 22 will also be in that bracket. What I frighteningly exciting prospect.
Looks like TOTTENHAM are doing KLOPPS in their pants, as rumours strengthen that we are pushing HARD for Maddison today, the following is from the Tottenham Board:
"it is claimed that Newcastle will be entering the fold for his signature hence making it way tougher for us to complete the deal.
Newcastle had a dream season under Eddie Howe and are in a position to offer UEFA Champions League football in addition to hefty wages due to the change of their ownership.
It is important that we do not miss out on this deal as the addition of Maddison to the team would bring a big chance to create chances out of midfield.
He would be an astute signing and would allow other players such as Pierre Emile-Hojberg and Yves Bissouma to do what they are good at, which is protecting the back four and transitioning the defence into attack.
Hopefully, the board is aware of the reignited interest from Newcastle and are willing to step up their interest in the player ahead of a tough bidding war. Eddie Howe is an exciting manager to work under for any young player in England.
Moreover, the Toons can offer him UEFA Champions League football and with their new Saudi owners, are a tough team to compete with financially in the market. Spurs have to be quick, smart and decisive if they want to beat Newcastle for Maddison.
