I just don't get this idea that we've had a managerial upgrade. Form did not improve but went began to go backwards last season, including after January.

Am I against Taylor? No. Do I think he's a better Manager than Warne? Maybe, maybe not. This season is his season and I for one want him to be here regardless of what happens at the end of it. If we were to go down I'd still keep him on.

However, had the results been Warnes from the day he left to go to Derby to today.... The ones currently making out as though we are suddenly Brazil would be screaming for the managers head.
Maybe some remember the injuries we had and had to throw anybody on pitch.

I honestly can’t believe that anyone wouldn’t be happy with the newsigning.

    SUPER MATTY TAYLOR

Where have I said I am not?

As for injuries, the ones remembering now are the ones forgetting the injuries in relegation seasons too.

The transfers in and out have been astonishingly poor is what you’ve said on a previous thread so are you now saying different?

No I haven’t forgot the few injuries that wasn’t what relegated us, the mistakes relegated us

Whilst I appreciate that this is a forum and discussion about our past manager vs our current one makes for excellent healthy debate, I just do not understand why there is this disconnect between fans that you're either a Warne fan or a Taylor one. Like we need to pick a side and show loyalty for one or the other.

I could understand it if we had sacked Warne and then brought Taylor in as his replacement. Because that would the the club making a statement of intent that Warne wasn't/isn't the man for the job and the club believe Taylor is an upgrade.

But thats not the case. Warne made his choice and left, we had a vacancy to fill. Warne will always be a legend in my eyes and I've got so many fond memories of his tenure in charge, some of my happiest as a Miller. But Taylor didn't replace Warne, Taylor filled a vacancy.

They are both young and upcoming managers with different styles and different tactics. For me, it's as simple as last season Rotherham United had two managers and their combined efforts kept us up. If that means I have splinters in my arse from sitting on the fence then so be it, but it's the truth.

This season it's all on Taylor. His signings, his style. I'm liking what I see so far. Liking what Taylor is doing is absolutely no dig at what Warne was doing. So lets keep the debate healthy because it keeps the forum alive but I just do not see the need for the divide.

Taylor has been a disaster so far
When PW left, we had 18 points from 11 games, and a GD of +7
We finished the season with 32 points from the remaining 35 games and a GD of -18
The form over those games was so bad that if we'd performed like that over the entire season, we'd have been relegated (Wigan would have finished just below us ONLY because of the points deduction)
And now, the most expensive Rotherham team in history, has lost 4 and drawn 2 this season

That's why I'm negative about Taylor....
But if that's what you want from a manager, that's your choice.....

    Facts or facts…
Paul warne left after the middlesborough Match, game 9, we had only 14 points.
Matt Taylor first day in charge was against Millwall.

If you look at the points from then we weren't relegated and still wouldn’t have been relegated even allowing for the points deductions.

    Before the Millwall game…
Reading were 7 points ahead of us. ( finished 6 points behind ) give them back the 6 points deduction, still 7 points less during Matt Taylor time.
Wigan were 2 points ahead of us. ( finished 8 points behind ) give them 3 points deduction, still 7 points behind.
Blackpool were 3 points behind. ( finished 6 points behind )
Also QPR had a worse points tally, they were 4 points ahead, finished level.

Felt it necessary to correct the previously stated facts, some of the stats sites have errors based on match rounds. I believe the errors come from cancelled games like the Sheff utd match, original scheduled under Paul Wayne reign but was cancelled due the sad passing of the of the more significant reign of HM the queen.
The rearranged game was under mat Taylor but some stat to sites credit it to Paul warne time in error.

Well said Derek. The same could be said about the Smith v Hugill debate. Smudge was a very good player for RUFC obtained at a bargain price, gave 100% and eventually decided it was time to move on. Some can even forgive him for where he went. Jordan was a marquee signing and came to us at a time where many players wouldn't even look at RUFC. He's not had the greatest of starts but at the moment he's the manager's choice. Why do people insist on beating him down week after week?
