It's the fact that the ball is moved away from our goal and [I]hopefully[I] they are delayed coming forward again by the oncoming midfield. Probably naive but it's something in those first exchanges?

It will get very difficult for us if DM and/or AJ get injured (DM must be due a rest very soon)

Well injuries and absentees are part and parcel of professional sport.
We will always be the sum of the parts, making do to do our best.
This squad possesses enough talent, grit and determination to secure automatic promotion.
What concerns me is the risky team selections that are making a hard job harder for the players
So when JJ returns when and where he plays will require much understanding.
Serious injuries have already incapacitated Matty and Cedwyn.
Ah well what will be will be but our dedication and support should never waver

This is exactly what's needed. Ball into the corners, wing backs high, pinning in the opposition. Ask Crowley to join in scrapping for the ball for the first ten minutes. Our current game plan allows us to be under pressure from the off. It isn't rocket science.
On a positive note, I've started to season my hat. I'm still not 100% convinced by Maynard but his hooking of Hinchy (SM made nice noises in the presser) was ***** and he didn't p*** about doing it. Well done SM.
For the moaners and groaners on here. This league is historically tight. Nearly a third of the season gone and we are in an automatic spot. All teams have injuries, but it is fair that few could be as debilitating as us not having Jones available, yet we continue to pick up points without our best player. The squad is much stronger than last season and on balance, there is much to be happy about even if we are not blowing sides away. The defensive recruitment has been excellent and that is allowing us to pick up points late in games that would've been out of reach last season. COYP

I think SM is proving himself to be a really good manager in-game. Loads of times already this season he’s made subs or changes of shape that have got us control of games back. If he can sort out why it keeps going so wrong at the start then we might be really onto something.

... isn't it just nice to be thieving Magpies, just for a change; doing unto others that which has been done frequently unto us. UPIES

I think some fans are a bit harsh on some players, many are new or only get on for 20 minutes or so and are expected to play like Messi. I thought Brown showed a few glimpses yesterday yes he could have done better with his goal attempt but let's see what happens to a few of them when they get a run in the team instead of calling them crap after seeing them for half an hour.
Let's face it Barrow fans wouldn't rate Jatta or Crowley after last night's match.

Thing is with these teams that grind out 1-0 by spoiling and hoofing every week, unless you have wrexham level quality it’s unsustainable- people were hailing Gillingham just as you are now with Port Vale. Gills have fallen off a cliff recently because they rely on a lot of uncontrollables / chaos to win a game. Nothing wrong with Notts style of play, just missing the best player in the league and its showing a little.

Still picking up points and ticking over - which would not have been happening last season. Cheer up (or support Port Vale maybe).

I’m not convinced by this team at all, I think keeper and defence we look far stronger than at this point or any point of last season but by this time last season our midfield and forward play was by far slicker and creative.
Full credit to Maynard for having a pair about him though to drag a player after 30 minutes.
We drastically need to find the ball into the forwards far quicker though that has been plainly obvious to see all season so far.

People weren’t really ‘hailing’ Gillingham at all, everyone could see they were very lucky to win at ours, as they were apparently to win a few before that. I thought Vale were much better, and held us off fairly comfortably in the end. They’ve also lost who they would call the best player in the league, George Byers.

We’ve very much been mid table since the Bromley game, and unless something changes, that’s where I think we’ll end up again.
