Some fair points in there, but again, I don’t know why you’re exaggerating how good or otherwise people said the likes of Port Vale are. They’re the in form team at the moment (on the back of losing their best player) whether it lasts or not we’ll see, but I think they’ve got enough quality to stay the course.


As for us, we’re one of the biggest clubs in the league, with presumably a budget to match, so it seems pretty poor to me that we’re pinning all our hopes on the return of one player, probably in about 3 months. As you say we’re doing well to be currently in the top 3. Performances don’t suggest we’ll stay there very long though.

Don't know why you're moaning about performances. We've had 7 players out for the the last few games. It's bound to affect performance, what the hell do you expect? Rather, you should be celebrating that we've been gritty enough still to secure points. Under the circumstances, very good job all round.

The squads better than last year overall, it’s not being a club apologists accepting the clubs not going to get top quality in every position including back ups unless they’re going to spend silly money.

Okay, Matt_Magpie - the reason I call you in particular an "apologist" is that you jump all over any post that isn't completely and absolutely in line with the party line (my posts in particular). Any comment that isn't wholly 100% positive must be ruthlessly crushed, the narrative restored and the poster diminished.

It was entirely predictable that you'd respond to my comment, despite the fact that it was almost entirely positive, but solely because it was only 95% positive, you swooped in with the opposite, rose-tinted perspective. You're not the only one by any means, but you're certainly the most prominent. It's borderline obsessive, if you ask me.

Perhaps if you weren't the way you are, the "apologist" tag may die out, but you're not going to change, so embrace it. I don't agree with you, you don't agree with me - let's just leave it at that.

We’re pretty much exactly where we were at this time last season.

The problem period last season started on New Year’s Day, we won 1 game in 12 from the 1st Jan although we started to falter a little from around game 12, where we are now.

With the injuries we just need to keep grinding out results to try and get a few back or a few in come Jan.

I think the problems had started earlier than that - probably against Mansfield. Take out the two convincing home wins at Christmas and we were often flattering to deceive when we won at home and struggling away (Wimbledon, Crewe, Harrogate spring to mind). Did we have a good away performance under LW after Salford?

Agree with you that we need to keep grinding out those results, but I’d also like a faster tempo in the home games and to be up for it from the off. As SM said, Harrogate tomorrow is one of those “bread and butter” games we need to win if we’re serious about the top 3.

Agree, as I said we started to falter from game 12 (game 13 was Mansfield so ok after game 12).

LW’s home record (top sides aside) was pretty good and kept us in touch but the signs were there.

The key difference this season is that if you are defensively ok, you’ve always a chance at getting something, especially away from home. As long as we can do as you say and up the tempo (and come out of the blocks) at home we’ll keep with the pack.

A bit wrong there, a bed wetter is a label given to anyone who has the audacity to voice an opinion that is even remotely critical of the way we play (in particular). It doesn't matter if the point raised is blindingly obvious they will be labelled "Bedwetter".

I only have from the summer onwards but that appears an inaccurate definition. I believe it is broader than that.

I always thought bedwetter in a metaphorical sense meant somebody who was over dramatic and overly worried about events both historic and ones that are hypothetical and hadn’t even happened yet. I have seen plenty of examples of that on this website. I believe that is a common trait of football fans. Fear the worse and moan if it happens with sporadic bursts of happiness thrown in.

Looks like both phrases to radical phrases are misused.
