Would Notts get a Jack Grealish Training Solidarity Payment?

It has been rumoured that our boy Jack Grealish may be off to AC Milan in the summer for a hefty fee.

If this occurred, I believe we would be due a percentage of the fee as one of the clubs that helped his development prior to the age of 23. This includes loan clubs. These payments only come into force for international transfers, so we didn't get a chunk of the big fee when he went to Man City, of course.

However, if he went to Italia for GBP35m (as rumoured), even a measly 2% would amount to approximately one Macca. Even 1% might be a Crowley. IIRC FIFA take 5% of the gross fee and distribute it to the clubs involved in the player's training journey, based on the data in the 'player passport'.

The distribution is based on the time spent at each club, so we would not be due that much, but probably a tidy six figure sum anyhow. According to my calculations if he moved for GBP35m we should get approximately GBP159k.

Does anyone know whether this system is still in operation and if there's any reason we might not receive the dosh?

ETA: I'm now hoping Real Madrid buy Callum McGregor.

    The solidarity payment element perhaps?

10% of 5% and pro rata if he was registered for less than a year.

Yes that's what I was referring to. An interesting system and perhaps a potential future cash bonus for lower league teams taking players on loan who go on to 'make it big' in the game. Perhaps that's one of the little advantages of playing 'pretty football' at this level and attracting loans from PL clubs because the style matches?

Isn't this only until the player turns 23? or have I misread that link?

As I understand it the solidarity payment part continues indefinitely.

    • The solidarity mechanism continues to apply upon every international transfer until the player retires.

    • To claim a solidarity payment, the claimant club must have trained and educated the player between the ages of 12 and 23, and the international transfer must have taken place while the player was under contract. |"

This would be great for us obviously, and a good move for him. Lots of less talented British players than him have made a big impact in Serie A recently and he can hopefully get his mojo back after a few years in Pep's gilded straight jacket.
