Rupert Murdoch may not be your cup of tea (he isn't mine either), but he doesn't make people sign up to the services provided by his companies and nor am I aware of anything to suggest that people have been conned, as you suggest.

If people want to buy into the dream of being able to watch of Burnley v Southampton on a Monday evening then it's their choice - nobody elses.

Of course people are influenced to make choices, but they don't have to do it.
