That is NOT the case.
Because the club specifically said that this was NOT the case.
If Dane had not said - ‘if he is successful then Barnsley has the option of buying him and a fee has been agreed that is within Barnsley’s budget’ - then of course no one would have been any wiser and supporters would have assumed that his value was too expensive for Barnsley to buy.
But this did not happen.
Personally - I think Dane was telling the truth.
But what has happened here is that Barnsley have taken a huge risk with Dike.
Not all risks are successful - an obvious example of that is Obbi.
But the risk with Dike paid off big time - and in no time at all he was being valued at £15m to £20m.
Inside a couple of months managers such as Warnock are describing Dike as the best in the division.
I think the small print has played a part - because of Dikes success - Orlando have found a loophole to haul him back.
And has that had any barring on Danes time at Barnsley?
Because on paper - say an agreement of £3m had been agreed.
Dike has another season with us - I’m sure we wouldn’t be in this position if he was still here.
But we sell him for £15m in the summer.
Barnsley finish the 21/22 season mid table with a profit of £12m in the bank.
Win Win.
But instead of that.
Dike goes back without any explanation whatsoever.
Barnsley are more or less nailed on for relegation.
And Dane Murphy leaves soon after Dike without a single word of thanks from the club.
