However a 1.6% increase in Scottish students compared to a 37.1% increase in non EU students shows that the universities particularly the ones such St Andrews and Edinburgh are keen to get overseas students who pay the full cost of their degree course.
In my opinion there are too many former technical colleges who are now ‘jumped up’ universities with the daddy of them all, the University of the Highlands and Islands which consists of a rag, tag and bobtail group of former technical colleges including a Gaelic college.
So firstly you acknowledge that your original comment was wrong, by now saying that there are more places for Scottish kids. Giving comment on the quality of the universities is an entirely different thing, and I suspect you're not qualified to judge that.

Secondly, the increase in non-EU students is counter balanced by the difficulties getting EU students since Brexit. Can you explain why having more non EU in that balance is an issue?

Thirdly, the change from techs to universities (like Abertay) is positive for many poorer kids who were rejected by the old elitist system or who need to study in their home town because moving is too expensive. They have a far better pathway for jobs and the only people who don't like it are the old anti-working class elitists because it gives poorer people a chance.
For me, a working class kid gaining a university degree in a practical and useful subject is a far better use of resource than some jumped up fancy Dan getting a degree in some made up art subject then a job in daddies company.
