I'm sorry, and it may sound heartless but I agree with the majority of posts on this thread. My heart goes out to the family of Lee Rigby and I can't imagine what they must have gone (and are still going) through but I feel the same about the families of many others who are facing the anniversary of the sad loss of a loved one (including our heroes killed abroad). If we showed an equally justified mark of respect for each case we'd be standing up/applauding/having a minutes silence for half the game and then it becomes a bit devalued.
[quote="Ramondo"]A friend of mine, who will be at the game, lost his partner about 4 weeks from suicide after a period of sustained depression. Completely avoidable but for the cuts to funding of mental health treatment in the community. He is devastated beyond belief.
A few weeks ago, a teacherd Ann Maguire was stabbed to death at school by a pupil. Her family are in pieces.
You may recall Dr Muhammad Taufiq Al Satar who recently lost his wife and three children who died in a house fire that was started deliberately by arsonists who actually picked the wrong house as a revenge attack.
The point I am making is that death and tragedy is all around us. If we continue down the path of applause, standing and chanting every game or so for one person or another then the value of that gesture becomes lost. The Bradford fire was a football tragedy and we, as football fans, paid our tribute to them v Brighton. Colin Bloomfield is an ex commentator for Rams ma
Lets have one for Ken Bigley, Margret Thatcher, Steve Bloomer, the crew of the Tikki Raffiki and my daughters pet rabbit that died when she was three!
I think its a great example of how something has been used as a polictical tool by the media and government and the difficulty some show in jumping off the band waggon and get a life!
Show of respect is one thing but over milking something is completely another.

Enough said really!
7 years today since Steve Irwin passed away
Inflatable crocodiles on 7 minutes anyone ?
I've been pondering this one overnight and can reaffirm my "anti" stance, not out of any sense of disrespect but rather because:
a) no connection with the date
b) no connection with football
c) no connection with Derby
As several have said, where do you draw the line? Every day, every hour there is a tragedy somewhere.
By the way, what was the rabbit called, Rat?
