I think this thread's run its course but let me just give an example of PC gone mad:

just watched the SSN summary of the bellew cleverly fight. they interviewed bellew after the fight and during 5-10 minutes of the interview bellew said 'jesus Christ that was hard'.

when they went back to the studio the presenter said 'apologies for the small bit of blasphemy there'.

    really? pathetic.

[quote="Bear DCFC"]dave whelen is a thoroughly decent bloke and one of the good guys in football. very honest and calls a spade a spade. I have much respect for him.

what i'll say in defence of tan is that the problem with words like 'chink'ni is that it can be used inaccurately, which is what whelen has done in this instance. tan is not Chinese (chink) he's actually Malaysian. so it's fair for him to be a bit upset by the situation. I don't think dave whelen is one bit racist from what I know of him but in this case he's been unwittingly ignorant.

on a grander scale I'd like to ask who it is that actually classifies these words as racist, offensive and or taboo?

there seems to be a 'group' for everything now days. a ridiculous sounding one on SSN today sticking their noses in ched evans' business. we've got kick it out sticking they're nose in dave whelen's busines

Not pathetic, a good example of what Toggles said, an apology because it may offend some people, same as swearing does and a broadcast medium has to observe higher standards than the person in the street obviously - such language does not bother me, but i wouldn't go out of my way to use such language in the company of people I knew would be offended, unless of course they'd knocked on my door uninvited to bring me the "good news" in which case the opposite applies.

I do think we get our knickers in a twist over what is really just being respectful

Just because I'm English and humour is always the answer...
